Loot respawn?

Post » Mon Dec 07, 2015 10:12 pm

In RPG's I'm a Kleptomaniac.

LIke a scavenger I love making alot of stashes here and there cuz there is too much things to carry.

In Skyrim, open world barrels and chests are rarely safe as the items inside can be overwritten by respawning loot.

Will fallout 4 have a similar loot respawning mechanic? I.e. new respawns every 3 - 4 in-game days?

As far as I know, in Skyrim and Fallout 3 and NV, things tend to stay around if you drop stuff right onto the floor. I wonder if this will also be a viable way of "stashing loot" if one is encumbered, or wether the vertibird has an onboard inventory?

I guess time will tell.

While this is hardly something that Bethesda would feel the need to mention pre-release since it's so minor, my guess is it will be like past games or Skyrim - some containers are safe, some are not. Who knows, though, maybe they'll actually improve it somehow...but I doubt it personally.

In FO3/FONV, NPCs could pick your stuff up or take it from containers, if the NPC patrolled an area that you left stuff. But, in other areas, you could leave stuff on the ground and it would always be there. Most of the containers did not respawn, but some did, and they were pretty obvious if they did, like the refrigerators at some of the safe houses. I do hope there are "homes" that we can rent or acquire and use in place of the one we make, at least for the first part of the game.

I recall that in oblivion items you left on the ground would some times despawn, as such I lost Umbra by leaving it in a small pond. don't ask me why I stored it in a pond, I have my reasons.

From what we saw in the crafting video, there will be regular storage facilities where we can dump all the junk we collect for crafting - and it is all available at any of those storage locations.

Kind of like a bank with a bunch of places where you can access your storage. I hope I understand what I saw correctly - it sounds great.

Well I wouldn't call this minor. Considering how much stuff you'd want to collect, collecting will be an activity that most poeple are going to do more often than combat.

Oh heck yeah. Remember Vault 112? The one with the virtual reality station? It was a "safe house" and one of the more popular "player housing" cuz all the containers were safe and had a kind of cyberpunk vibe to it.

If there were a crashed airplane somewhere, i"d love to make that my "noobshack". That... brings me to an idea... I am gonna make a "Bury loot with a shovel" mod. h1z1 style.

In skyrim they'd sometimes pick it up and return it to you if you dropped it in a crowded area. That was pretty funny.

I'm thinking it'll be like past games. Lots of respawning containers and some that are safe. Not sure how leveled the loot containers will be though. Seems like fallout likes to have more non-random loot than the TES games.

And considering the "politician" perk in the charisma tree, where one can send caravans to other workshops and stuff, I guess this indicates a kind of "bank sharing" mechanic?

In Allgrafs "Darkout" everything that is stored in proximity to the workbench is used for crafting automatically. Also in SWTOR, all crafting materials in an account-wide bank is counted/valid/utilized for crafting.

I have a feeling that in Fallout 4 the same "quality of life"considerations have been taken into account, considering just how much of a tedium it would cause if one were to sort all the mats beforehand, and deal with weight limits.
