*spoiler* power armours require "fusion cores"?

Post » Mon Dec 07, 2015 10:22 pm

This is my thought as well. At this point, this long after the bombs, I'd expect nearly every suit of power armor to be either stashed away some faction's armory or scrapped for parts. A power source that lasts for hundreds of years would be one hell of a piece of tech, I could easily see one being taken off a suit to power a settlement or something like that. Really there's plenty of reasons why a suit may not to have it's original parts.

Not to mention that all these suits have been sitting around for 200 years, most have certainly not been maintained on a regular basis. Even the most well designed machine can wear out and break.

Right. Making them yourself, it would make sense they'd have time restrictions. After all, you'd probably be making the kind of cells originally used in T-45 armor. But with the Institute and the Brotherhood of Steel in the same vicinity...at least one of them would have the capability to make the new type of cell.

Fusion cores could be used for other things.

Yeah I agree, I'd like to see more side-grades rather than straight up-grades. Post war groups wouldn't seem the best for breakthroughs that pre-war didn't manage. However they should be better at coming up with equipment to deal with the new threats and tasks.

I liked the look of power armour but it always seemed "meh" in 3 and NV, medium armours were just better due to less downsides and healing being a joke. But it should at least have some requirements, before it was PA training but now it seems we have that off the bat so limiters need to be put in place. Even more so with it being so powerful to take on a deathclaw at like level 2.

I'd also hazard a guess that the cores could be part of the new game economy, if the rummor is true that there's no weapon and armour repairing there's now a huge gap in the cash sink.

That's still what I'm thinking. Maybe early game PA at most in relation to power armour.

i care much about the LORE but i can live with this change, this new PA system make me care about using a PA now to deal with a hard situation.

And probably yeah there is a high chance that the Energy is a problem just at the star only

If they want to stay true to the lore then only the T-45 should be affected by the high power consumption as that was one of it's flaws. T-51 and APA however definitely shouldn't be affected by this as their cores are supposed to and should last for at least a century.

So the lore supports using other batteries. FO4 is 2 centuries since the bombs fell ontop of the time since the core was made.

I'm sure with the max rank of the nuclear physicist perk we'll get fusion cores that don't degenerate at all

we could be using "knock off" fusion cores as time past towns/citys get bigger and need more power sources so they used the suits cores to expand and replaced em with post war -best attempt- fusion cores and with PA already becoming rare by FO3 its not like finding real replacements going to be any easier 10 years later.

Concerning the comment about the reddit post that was translated from Spanish where the original poster didn't even mention that the power armor needed a battery, we can see clearly in the E3 reveal video that the pc does insert a power source in the back of the power armor - my theory is that this is given as a quest item, so the redditor not recalling it needing power or not bringing it up could just be because it was given for that quest to introduce you to power armor. Bethesda seems to do okay with respecting original lore so maybe there will be some retconning but I'm not seeing it happening yet, as mentioned later models won't require continual more power to upkeep it...so the hope is that that's what Bethesda does.

I can imagine some sort of requirement for using Power Armor. I doubt they'd say "Here take this power armor and kill everything in sight" right away.

I'm mad. There was absolutely no good reason to retcon the hell out of power armor. Couldn't they just leave well enough alone? Is Bethesda going to go full JJ Abrams and ruin a franchise like what was done to Star Trek?

I am personally verry carefull about this spanish guy....

We don't know which version hes playing and to be honest i don't like the fact hes flooding the internet with spoilers.

also his opinions seem to be contradicting.

There was some commotiont his weekend, because he reported he could only resolve 1 dialogue trough charisma, a lot of poeple were allready throwing there hate towards Bethesda. While later he admitted it is because his CHAR is only 4...

Pretty certain you get your first suit of Power Armor at, like, level 1.

Probably only for a shot while, sort of like a tutorial on how to use it. I just can't see us getting given power armor at such an early stage in the game.

One of the leaked vids shows the PC discovering Dogmeat while in Power Armor, and he seems to be entirely low-level (still using a pipe rifle, for example) - and I think he only started playing 3 hours ago.

a power source designed to last 1oo years

in power armor that is maybe 210 years old. . .

and this is what people are complaining about?

I agree, especially since I think we get the Power Armor much earlier than FO3 and FO:NV. With perks, adds more longevity to the power/fusion cells than at first chance.

Thats what i thought.. I mean, some of them could last for 1000 years or soso.
But that was in pre war conditions - being maintained, safely stored - a war has hit. Affecting the integrity of near enough everything and ontop of that power armour is already a rare commodity..

Shouldnt they be failing now?

well you can use the fusion core as a fusion bomb launcher with the third rank of the skill....so technicaly.. ..

I can see the BOS reaction to you useing a fusion core ejection to get a deathclaw off your back...
