Player Agency Vs. Narrative - A look at Fallout 4

Post » Mon Dec 07, 2015 6:43 pm

Hey guys!

I decided to make a video about Fallout 4. Specifically on the topic of player agency in video games.

As we know, Fallout 4 will feature a voiced protagonist with a detailed backstory. The goal behind this (I think) is to deliver a better narrative. I wanted to talk about the balancing act between freedom of expression and a streamlined narrative in video games, and whether or not Fallout will be able to find this balance.

Take a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hfUywkbU2w

Let me know what you think!

Edit: Oh and I incorrectly credited the Fallout 3 soundtrack to Jeremy Soule. I corrected that in the description. The Fallout 3 soundtrack was composed by Inon Zur.

I'll have to watch this after I get the game .. too scared of over spoiling myself at the moment.

Trust me, there's no real spoilers here. The only thing I mention are things already known to the public, like the player's basic background. I intentionally left out information I got from leaks and early videos.
