What are some ways to roleplay in fallout?

Post » Tue Dec 08, 2015 6:26 am

I'm a fallout noob but i made many many characters and put literally months of playtime into TESV. It was easy to roleplay in a fantasy world like TES, but how do i do that in fallout? I'm not trying to insult the game but i find it hard to roleplay a game where guns are everywhere.

And I'm not trying to insult you but why does the weapon a person is holding preclude role playing for you? Characters still have motivation for doing what it is they do regardless of if they swing a wet noodle or a gatling laser. Decide on a reason for your character to be in the wastes and make all your decisions based on that starting point...

Because a character to role play is more than a weapon they carry (if try carry one at all).

Here's some questions that might help you form a character:
- what kind of life did they have before the bombs and how would that influence their reaction to their whole world ending? Why are they strong enough not to eat a bullet at first opportunity?
- where do they get their combat skills from?
- what life experiences would inform their opinions in right and wrong?
- Are they an idealist or a pragmatist?
- Optimist or pessimist?
- Sophist or simpleton?
- if your character was confronted by a synth that demanded recognition as a human, what would your characters reaction be an what informed that decision?
- would your character want to rebuild a semblance of "before" or learn a new reality full of new norms and values?

I find FPS games to be less interesting i guess. I don't feel very connected and immersed. Do i run around and pretend to be a heavy weapons specialist or somthing? In other games im a mage, warrior, thief, merchant, smith, traveling cook, etc.

I guess i'm just looking for ideas.

thanks that really helped

If you were able to roleplay in Skyrim, you'll have no problem in Fallout 4, it's at the same level...

I put out a thread last week trying to find out what other people's backstories might be. I wouldn't bother reviving it, but it has some good stories from other members.

Once you've got your backstory you live in the wastes according to how that character would behave.

Here's a http://www.sugarbombed.com/forums/threads/countdown-the-hundred-day-g-o-a-t-exam-updated-daily.3744/that can help you develop your character prior to release. I thought it was really fun to go through and answer some of the questions. It helped me visualize my character build and prepare my roleplay.

Read up on the lore. The fallout universe and canon leading up F4 is how I shape my character. There are factions that may heavily determine who your character will be and guide the decisions you make. Most likely, your first playthrough will be a lot of learning.

You could also eat people. It's fun I promise.

You can play the stealth game and engage every ennemy from behind with a kife.

You could spec high in Charisma and Luck and rely on diplomacy and luck to avoid fighting situations.

You could buff up on strenght and endurance and melee everyone in your way.

Guns don't kill people, you kill people with or without guns. Or you don't and try to talk your way across the wasteland.

You can also play a role with the waste people. Help them or make their life miserable. There is always different options in conversations.

Do not limit your choices to weapons only
