Realistic design life

Post » Tue Dec 08, 2015 5:06 am

How long do you think the game was realistically designed to last and is there a programme for the planned DLC?

I've been a bit disappointed with AAA titles recently and have stopped playing within a few weeks of release. Maybe I'm just getting older and can't do the whole online gaming thing anymore. Fallout is different though, this is Bethesda, this is offline single player, this is open world RPG.

I'm hoping this game lasts me a lonnnggg time and I can get lost in the world, reigniting my 30-year long love of gaming.

Judging by my experiences with F3 and NV, I expect to play this for a solid 2 years or so (maybe around 8 hours a week) and occasionally for a couple years after that.

I'm hoping to see a NV style side game in about 3 years.

Hi & welcome to the forums. Your post struck a chord with me, as most AAA titles haven't held my interest for long either. Here's hoping F4 will be different. Since there's no level cap (well there is but I can't remember the exact limit) we should be able to play one character for quite a long time. If you like making lots of characters, like me, that may be a different story. You can, but they are all going to have the same 2 voices: one for the male and one for the female. I've liked every Bethesda game that I've played so I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt.

The DLC is currently available as a Season Pass.

I imagine it is designed to last until TES6 comes out. They'll push out the last DLC in a year or so, but they know mods will make the game ride until the next big thing.

Course other games are coming out that I'm following (like XCOM2) so I'll take breaks from FO4 myself.

That would be impressive, but unlikely. I suppose it depends how many hours per day you put in.

Not sure really. These last 18 months i have played Skyrim for about 800 hours. That is alot for a game that is now 4 years old. So it will last a long time. I am still replaying Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, Skyrim etc from Bethesda. And many other games from other developers.

But if i had to guess from Bethesda's point of view, they want it to last until they release TES VI. Which i am guessing will be minimum 3 years from now, but probably 4.

I still pick up 3/NV fairly often. It's the most played series I've ever had. I really can't/don't want to even know how much time I've put in LOL

I was playing FONV when FO4 was announced earlier this year, on PC with the current modding community these games last for a very long time.
