Unable to start 'Getting a Clue' main quest

Hello, I've been having issues advancing the main story of Fallout 4 since I can't trigger the 'Getting a Clue' quest that comes after 'Unlucky Valentine'.

I was confused on how to advance the story and it turns out I was supposed to sit down to chat with Nick Valentine in his little office, which I didn't receive a comment to until doing the Earl Sterling case. However, Nick is sitting in the chair at the far side of the room when he is supposed to be sitting at the front desk. This leads to nothing happening when I sit in the chair.

Am I supposed to do something else beforehand? There are no quests in my log that relate to Shaun or Valentine.

Under the assumption that it was a glitch I tried forcing Ellie and Nick out of the chairs by disabling & enabling them, alternatively tried it on the NPCs themselves, but it did not work. I also obviously tried restarting and waiting, but it also did not help.

Any type of interaction with Nick or Ellie results in their general greeting dialogue, they do not move or open up any dialogues menus.

I've also tried using the setstage mq105 0 console command that apparently allows you to start a quest, but it did not work. My Dogmeat is also missing somewhere in Vault 114 and seems to not exist, which a few other people are having an issue with that are also suffering from this bug, not sure if its connected.

I'd appreciate the help, thanks.

Edit: Sorry for the highlighted text, copy and pasted and it ended up like this.

I don't think dogmeat has anything to do with it. He just randomly teleports to Diamond City when you progress far enough into Getting A Clue as he is needed for the quest after.

When you entered the agency, was there an interaction scene between Ellie and Nick? There should have been one, and there would have been a prompt during that scene to tell you to sit down. See Many a True Nerd's fallout 4 playthrough (part 12) on youtube. Jump to about 1:44.

Did you try talking to Nick (despite him sitting so far away) before using console commands?

They did talk to each other about my character's case and told me to sit down, but sitting down nothing happened. I was also not able to talk to Nick from that distance.

Is it possible to ask Nick to be your companion at this stage? It might work if you get him to be your companion, get out of the office, dismiss him (don't pick a location, and he should return to his office automatically), then fast-travel out and back into Diamond City.

Else, get out of the office, then try to see if either of these console commands works:

resetquest 000229e6 (should reset the quest)

setstage 000229e6 10 (should prompt you to go to Valentine's office)

setstage 000229e6 15 (should prompt you to talk to Ellie)

setstage 000229e6 20 (should prompt you to sit down)

setstage 000229e6 30 (should prompt you to talk to Nick)

If all else fails, try either of the following two commands to skip the part where you talk to Nick:

setstage 000229e6 40 (should prompt you to follow Nick)

setstage 000229e6 60 (should prompt you to find a certain key)

I can't get him as a companion at the moment. I also tried all of the console commands but none of them worked, Its as if the quest straight up doesn't exist. I might have to just restart unfortunately
