Need tips for building the "transporter"

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 3:22 am

I do not like the mine craft aspect of fallout 4. I was told I could ignore it. That turns out to not be the case.

So I am a little annoyed and short tempered concerning building the transporter.

My first big fear is that I started the "build" on the roof of the red rocket. Now I read in one "how to" that you MUST build it on the ground and not on a rug.

Is that 100% true or is is possible to build it on the roof or on a second level in the game ?

thank you for your help, sorry if I sound ungrateful as I am not in a good mood because of this...

I actually built mine on the roof. However, there was a catch: the two base pieces wouldn't snap if I built on the roof. What I ended up doing was putting the pieces on the ground, snapping them together, then dragging the entire setup to the roof by holding the Activate button instead of pressing and releasing. When the pieces were pre-snapped on the ground and then moved to the roof, I had no problems dropping them. Didn't even have to use a rug to pull it off.

It's just six items you build - two generators, portal, base, beacon and terminal. It's really minor and hardly counts as Minecraft. But I get your point - they did say that building stuff was completely optional and it's really not. Especially if you side with the Minutemen, then you need to focus heavily on Settlements. It's what the minutemen is all about.

Once you've entered the Institute however, the portal is destroyed and, once you leave the institute later, you can just scrap the entire things portal because traveling to and from the Institute is done through fast-travel instead. So it really doesn't matter where you place the portal, as long as you're getting it to work.

Just six items = many hours of collecting the scrap! Hours I intended to spend doing other things.

Anyway, thank you very very much to you and swk3000 for the help.

sooo...HOW do you connect the device with power lines? I spent 1/2 hour wading thru the mine craft menus trying to make power cables so I could connect it all together. And I could find no help or how tos on you tube that explain that part (they strangely ALL skip over that)!

I wish Bethesda had included a way to pay, trade favors or talk one of the NPC into doing all this. My actor was a soldier not a scientist/engineer!

Wire isn't a buildable item in the menus. Instead, highlight an item you want to attach a wire to, then press Space on PC. I want to say that it's the Y or Triangle button on consoles, but I don't know for sure. What I do know is that when an item that can be wired is highlighted, there will be an option along the bottom of the screen telling you what button to hit to attach a wire to the item. Simply press that button, then drag the wire to the other item being connected and press the Wire button again once it connects.
