how do you trade with preston during the quest "The Molecular Level"

i don't want to choose a faction right now

i just want to get my stuff back

but when i talk to him, the only choice i have are for building the device

the console command SBM show a empty inventory, probably because he is not a trader

and OpenTeammateContainer wont work in fallout 4

Previous save is probably it. There is also a console code if you are on PC
