Question regarding settler recruitment.

Hi everyone,

So I'd like to get some fresh faces in Sanctuary, and I know there's the broadcast tower thingie you can make, but can someone tell me how it works? What I mean is will it spawn settlers or will people who are already out in the wasteland come?

Let me clarify what I mean. At the dam near Sanctuary I came across a ghoul being chased by some raiders. I rescued her and she said she was looking for a safe place to settle and I told her to go to Sanctuary. I thought that was really cool. That's the way I'd like to get more people. I want to rescue them from their lives of misery. I don't just want the game to spawn them in order to fill beds.

I'm guessing the ghoul was a random encounter because I reloaded a save game and went to do it again but she wasn't there this time. So I guess my question is are there more people out there I can recruit in this manner? Or do I pretty much have to build the recruitment transmitter if I want several more people?

Thanks everyone.

Hey,

so there are a couple of more of those types of recruitment encounters in the open world, but the recruitment beacon you place in your settlement just "spawns" people named "Settler" that join your place. I think there is basically a neverending amount of those.

Yes, they will just show up when your beacon is turned on. They'll say something like 'I'm new here, thank you' when you go up to them.

Settler management, figuring out who is assigned to what, becomes difficult the more people you get. I eventually turned OFF all the beacons except for a couple of small settlements I use as recruiting stations.

Hangman's Alley is great for this since it's so hard to actually buid anything there. They fill up with new settlers regardless if there's enough food or water there, so when I need a new settler for a job somewhere or to replace dead ones, I just fast-travel to the recruiting place, dress them in something unmistakable like just long johns that tells me they're unassigned at their new home, and send them to wherever I want them to go.

It's kind of fascist, but it gives me population control.

Press the switch on the side, if the light is green it is transmitting your broadcast if it is red it is not if you make a tower it will spawn a settler in every so often who you will need to talk to and assign.

I know of one guy you can send to your settlement so I would think there are more.

I am hoping that once the GECK is released the community will create a settler mod so that you can manage them better and change their names... at least to something like Farmer #1, Guard #1, Town Idiot #1...

I believe there is currently a mod to rename settlers, but I prefer to wait for a proper mod using the GECK.
