Renaming weapons svcks

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 12:21 pm

I read about adding an A or B or 1 or 2 to items to make them come to the top on a sort.

Tried to rename my Recoil Compensated Advanced Combat Shotgun AND IT WOULD NOT LET ME.

I backed over some of the letters and THEN it would not even let me type in the same name.

It will not accept as many letters when YOU rename something as it does when the PROGRAMMERS name it.

You cannot take a short shotgun and rename it Recoil Compensated Advanced Combat Shotgun because that name exceeds the number of characters they allow PLAYERS to use in naming.

That svcks.

Since I was unable to satisfactorily rename the weapon I had to just give up and call it Slot 1 shotgun because I cannot rename it to it's proper name.

Yeah, it's pretty hokey that the game can name something 60 characters long, and you only get like 20 characters. And why can't you just edit the existing name by adding a dot or whatever to it, instead of having to create an entirely new name? Reasoning = unfathomable.

Maybe use acronyms for mods that are applied?
Recoil Compensated Glow Sighted Shotgun becomes RCGS Shotgun? TBH, saying all of that out loud would be a mouthful.
PC- "Let me just grab my recoil compensated glow sighted flaming short barrel fiberglass stock double barrel shotgun."
Follower- "compensating for something, that's for sure.

Hopefully there will be a mod the would for longer names for weapons / armor. I think 30 characters would be long enough, but I would play it safe and extend that 60 characters for people who really wants to give descriptive names to their items.

Hmm. Hadn't run into that problem yet, mostly because I usually want to make the names shorter.

....what?

I'm sure I've just altered the name that was already on a weapon...like a good few times now.

Edit: Sorry, I misunderstood the problem. I've never tried to make a weapon name longer.

Just name them short evocative things:

Smasher-Crasher (sledgehammer)

Brutus (shotgun)

Death Ray 46 (plasma rifle)

Sweetie Pie (full auto .45)

Bald Fat Guy (mini-nuke lobber)

Gold Tooth Junkie (hair trigger 10mm)

Omega Flavor Blazer (gamma gun)

For my current toon, all my armor that I use is renamed stuff like:

"Artemis Sinatra Helmet" (a legendary that gives + 1 INT & CHA)

"Artemis Fort Left Leg" (gives +1 STR & END)

Since you cannot favorite garments, I use the "Artemis" at the beginning of anything I want to keep.

I agree that more characters and flexibility would be nice but in the mean time show some appreciation for being able to name the damn things AT ALL!

And some of the names are ridiculously long too. Just like Conan O'Brien said in Clueless Gamer's review of FO4, by the time you finish reading the name, your enemies have already died of old age. It's a shame they put such a restriction on giving friendlier names to them, because friendly names are sorely needed here.

As a sort of aside, near as I can tell, there is nowhere that they list the differences between regular, Sturdy and Heavy armors. They ~look~ different so I suppse you could use that to distinguish them (if the "preview" pic is any help) but it still irks me a bit.

RE: the renaming, I've taken to using a hyphen at the beginning and then the ammo type and general info, like -10mm Silenced Pistol, -0.308 NV Sniper (for night vision), and so on. The problem is that things you CANNOT mod cannot be renamed, so my Black Rim Glasses are always stuck where they are in the list, and so on. So I still end up scrolling through the list past all the looted Raider this and Shadowed Deep Pocket Combat Armor Leg Armor to get to the things that I ~want~.

A "favorite" flag (which, ironically, they have: the little heart icon) would be a handy thing to let us sort on. Of course, I don't want to have to ~hotkey~ every article of clothing I want to have favorited --- the hotkey "favorites" are intended for things I will swap into quickly, and regularly. I want a "favorites" that just helps with sorting.
