The statue in Cheydinhal...

Post » Fri Jun 18, 2010 9:44 am

There's a statue in the Market District of Cheydinhal, right beside the Guild halls. It looks like a Nord, and he's holding some kind of object. Who is this man and does he have a story? Like was he involved in past events or something?

Galerion was an Archmage. Read "Galerion the Mystic" for reference. But maybe you already knew this... :D

An archmage? He's the founder of the Mages Guild and contemporary to Mannimarco.

Yeah, I read some stuff about him. If I'm not mistaken he's the founder of the Mages Guild. He and Mannimarco were both apprentices to some mage dude. (I forgot his name). Then Mannimarco started getting into necromancy. Eventually Galerion founded the Mages Guild and led an army of battlemages to meet Mannimarco and his army. The good guys one, but Mannimarco turned himself into a lich, granting him immortality. Also, Galerion died during the battle.

How did I do, Knight Mariel? :D

The source of most of that information is http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/mannimarco.shtml, whose veracity is rather suspect. The author is almost certain to have taken a great many artistic liberties.

Yes, until Mannimarco started necromancin'.

Not necessarily. Mannimarco was a uber necromancer, and was in the right place at the right time.

I remember reading this from somewhere. Mannimarco actually turned Galerion into a Worm Thrall after his first 'death'. In fact, he'd turned a lot of former enemies into worm thralls. He would have turned you into a worm thrall too if Traven didn't protect you.
I've been doing some thinking, and does anyone think there would have been a chance we slewed one of Tamriel's most famous Mages and not know it? :/

Speaking of statues, the one in Chorrol always got me interested. I kept looking for a plaque or something that might shed some light, to no avail. Does it have a backstory, or is it just another pretty mesh?

Chorrol has the Touch of the Healer's Hand, showing the Second Era healer, St. Osla, tending to the wounds of a soldier during the fall of Sancre Tor.

What about the Statue in Bruma, the one before you enter the castle? Doesn't it have something to do with Pale Pass?

That's General Talos shouting someone's knickers off. Or maybe he's shouting someone's barbican down- I'll go check the source text.
