what's your empty weight?

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 11:14 am

Try and keep it around the 150 mark.

I carry a minimum of 3 rifles and a shotgun at all times though so it's higher than it needs to be

Another tip for reducing weight is to regularly clear down your grenades and mines. Like aid this needs to be kept on top off if you pick up every grenade and mine you see like I do, I generally store a ton at my workshop so I'm just carrying 10 grenades and a couple of powerful mines.

Stealth boys are another ting that can quickly get out of hand if you don't keep an eye on it, they weigh 1 each and you can quickly be carrying 15-20 of them if you are not careful.

Yeah, Aid, explosives, and stealth boys add up fast. Especially raw meat, with the Wasteland Survival perk.

So I unloaded all my sh!t and looked it over last night, heres what I came up with

26 kg - Aid

5 kg - Misc

49 kg - armor

156 kg - weapons (sans grenades)

19 kg - grenades

total - 255 kg / 320 kg

There are a couple of things that don't make sense to me. For instance my Fatman weighs 30 kg, but my combat shotgun weighs 20 kg and my combat rifle is right around 25 kg. So how is it that 2 guns that are significantly smaller weigh almost as much as a mini nuke launcher?

Grenades, including the assistance grenades (flares and such), all weigh different amounts, yet are all relatively the same size

I can carry stacks of leather armor and combat armor yet I pick up a few weapons and Im over-encumbered almost immediately, this doesn't seem right to me.

I think the weight on weapons should be reconfigured, right now I think some weigh more than they should - depending on the upgrades I assume.

A tip to fellow pack rats- scroll through all of your MISC items- some of those have weight! I realized I had been carrying around like 5 pounds of overdue books for 10 levels or so.

I agree. Reconfiguring weights for items, retooling how encumbrance works and adding weight to ammo is something I either will try to do in a mod when the GECK comes out else look forward to someone else doing even better than I could.

I've done a lot of backcountry camping as well as caving (sometimes involving underground camps of multiple days). Load is an issue you simply cannot get around in reality, and it will be fun to basically redesign the entire game experience from the central fulcrum of encumbrance and inventory dynamics.

The way it is now is fine for the vanilla game; most users do not want a fullscale hardcoe "realism" mode and it would've been a waste of time for the developers to worry about it. Better for them to get the vanilla game to us, then focus on DLC to add more content. But if past history of "realism" mods in FO3, NV, Skyrim is any indication, there will be a significant audience for realism mods (survival mods, however you want to call them) and I look forward to being involved as a maker of mods this time around instead of just an enthusiastic consumer :)

Geez, I'm a pack rat and the fact that you can carry even more stuff/loot with PA, doesn't make it any easier for me. LOL My "empty" weight always hovers around 230ish. My aid inventory is full of food and water and I also carry about 5 fully modded guns that I use for different occasions, well dang, make that six, plus an arsenal of grenades. I can't even remember a time where my weight was below 200. LOL

Stimpacks have zero weight. Like ammo and pre-war money.

I think I'll be upping my empty carrying weight because I decided to change the difficulty level from high to survivor last night.... just to give it a try. However, even on high difficulty at level 50 the weapons I am carrying are a bit low on damage.

I have not encounter many legendary enemies that provides legendary loot so that's the primary reason for setting the difficulty to survivor. I guess I'll see how long I will leave it there because I don't want to be too annoyed with settlement attacks since I am in the middle of fortifying all 5 of my settlements.

160/230

I find myself going back to my home quite often to store all of the junk I hoard.

I deep pocket everything and keep only a few nades and guns on me. With a STR of 3, my carry weight is 300. In both of my playthroughs, my "empty" weight is about 130.

- - - - EDIT - - - - -

I'm pretty sure I picked up a magazine(s) that increased my carry weight, so without it, I think I'd be at 290.

Fun fact for those who don't know, wearing PA negates your armor underneath so if you put Deep Pocketed on everything, you only see an increase in carry weight of about 10 or 20 pounds.

i can usually keep it down below 125. best is around 90.

thats without me using power armor so i can ditch the normal heavy armor weight.

This is where the "it's a game" thing comes in. As a balance, higher-rank mods increase the weight of a gun. So the more improvements you make, the more it weighs. So a gun that started out heavy, plus lots of mods = even heavier. Just like "better" materials for weapons in MW/OB/SK made swords weigh more. To the point that you could have single-handed swords that weighed 30-40+ "weight units" (not sure anyone ever defined them as pounds, kg, or whatever).

Those aren't realistic weights for anything. (A loaded M-14 weighs around 10.5 lbs. A single-hand sword shouldn't be more than 3-4 lbs.)

250-ish, using carryweight mods that alter the base carryweight and the carryweight per strength. My max capacity is 700 or so with regular armor.

Level 41. My "post dump, get my ass back out there" weight is 140. I carry a silenced 10mm, .50 cal sniper rifle, combat shotgun, and another short-range .50 cal assault rifle. Minimal food and meds because at default difficulty I rarely need any help - plus I have over 200 stimpacks.

~100, and that is on account that more than half that weight falls to weapons, using ultralight combat armor pieces (I'm hardcoe sneak), plenty of chems, bit of food, some healing items.

I struggle to stay under 200 because of too many weapons.

haha nah, Im totally ok with ammo weighing nothing, I carry sooo much of that stuff at all times that would really kill my max load capacity. I just think that the weights on weapon should be tuned down a little bit, nothing crazy but just so a single gun doesn't cost you 15-20 kg right off the bat.
