Looking for Heavy Combat Armor? You might already have some

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 7:44 am

Yeah, it can be fairly annoying when trying to determine what armor is the armor you're looking for and what is just normal armor you don't need. At most, the way I've been able to differentiate the different armors is their weight. You see a normal leather chestpiece that is, what, 4 or 5 weight? I forgot the exact number, but its quite light. Next you see leather armor that is all of a sudden over 15 weight and has a heap of resistance that go up to 30 or 40. That's when you'll know.

Me personally, I'm not too fond of how heavy combat armor looks like male characters. Makes you look like a turtle, and I'm not interested in being turtley enough for the turtle club. Looks fine on females though, don't know why it had to be so bulky on males.

Still, though I am more fond of leather armor, I like mixing it with combat armor. http://imgur.com/lEDbKfQ.png.

You think getting a heavy combat armour is hard? Try Heavy raider armour. For some reason, even tho it's the most inferior of three, it's hardest to find. I guess because raiders tend to wear a lot of mishmash stuff. You can only really get it off Raider Veterans, and even then it's not guaranteed. I'm still missing the heavy raider right leg even tho im level 55....

As for combat armour, it reminds me of carapace/thick flak armour from 40k, and I'm surprised no one made a reference to imperial guard.

The simple fix to this would be for modified armor, instead of being:

Deep-Pocketed,Polymer Combat Armor Right Arm

it should default to:

Heavy Combat Armor Right Arm, Deep-Pocketed, Polymer

I proposed this a few days ago and was instantly called "lazy" by several people because "you can just rename it". Glad to see a few people here get what I'm talking about.

The @#$% is this @#$% about leather and combat armor? Give me metal!!!! \m/ \m/

Kidding, although I do find the metal armor very pleasing to look at and practical. Its only drawback is its weight, which makes total sense.

I totally forgot that you could rename items. Should make finding my preferred a bit easier.

I don't find this to be even remotely lazy. I find it to be logical. It seems like it should go without saying that three different levels of armor should take on different names after being modded. Yes, we can distinguish between them by look at their stats and weights and drawing comparisons, but this is a bit much. They have different names in the first place. Those names should carry through.

I rename everything that I can anyway. I can't even tell you how many times I've been unloading salvage into the workbench and accidentally stored one of my own guns while doing so. Then I have to go through the workshop list and pull it back out. To remedy this I renamed my guns with a hyphen (-) at the beginning of their name. This causes them to default to the top of the list and I can just spam the rest of the list below my own guns to deposit everything quickly. . Unfortunately as far as I can tell you don't get an option to rename non-moddable items. I have some Patrolmen's Sunglasses that I wear all the time with my combat outfit, and there isn't an option to rename them. The same goes for the fashionable sunglasses that I keep on hand for my charisma outfit. My charisma outfit also includes Reginald's Suit and a trillby hat, which can't be renamed either. I haven't gotten the ballistic weave unlocked yet, and I know it can be applied to these two pieces. I'm hoping that the option to rename them is available upon unlocking it.

I would love for there to be a better indicator of an armor set's effect on stealth apart from sneaking around to see what happens. I'm sticking to basic Combat armor, and still have a modded set of leather armor stowed away to stay stealthy. I can surmise by my weight that the heavier I am the easier to spot, generally speaking, but something like, say, a viewable Stealth stat would be nice so I could decide whether to bump up to Sturdy or Heavy Combat Armor without a lot of trial and error.

About the combat armor helmets,, while I like the way they look, they hide your hair and make you look bald which is putting me off for using them, it's a clipping issue but still...
It could be a potential mod, although many hair styles might need adjustment on their models to look good with it.

Yeah noticed it the other day, only bothered with sturdy legs for my combat armour as my chest and left arm armour give me +4 to SPECIAL which is a shame I'd like to upgrade to heavy chest piece as I like how it looks with the rest of my kit.

Some type of indication of your overall stealth ranking would be very useful. My character build is a very stealth driven sniper, and it'd be great to be able to see some kind of measure of my stealthiness short of just going into combat and finding out.

Have you tried the Shadowed mods on the Combat Armor? Those are intended to increase stealth, particularly in dark areas.

I actually haven't really noticed this. My character has longer hair though, and I'm pretty sure I can still see it extending below the helmet in the back. I may be remembering wrong though. I'll make a point of checking.

@Quant: I have started collecting Shadowed pieces to take from for my main armor set but don't have enough just yet.

Are you finding Stealth works OK with the Heavy Combat Armor? I like the set but don't want to commit to modding it up if it's gonna make me too easy to spot.
