is this really safe? weapons don't despawn :(

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 5:37 am

just saw this, while walking somewhere where I have been long ago:

http://abload.de/img/2015-12-09_00001wdsnj.jpg

will they be there forever?

is it dangerous for the game in any way? ^^

will I get performance or save issues in the future, when the game world becomes overloaded with those weapons?

or is it not an issue, because there are already too many other objects in the world?

I really don't want to pick all of them up, after every single fight :D

but it seems like they are actually staying, while the bodies disappear

In Fallout 3, it was goop piles...In Skyrim, the abandoned weapons floated in mid-air.

At least these ones lie on the ground.

I've had an ash pile that was once a Mirelurk sitting in the Castle for a while now, that I've been meaning to manually delete with the console.

Yes, that could be an issue that leads to save game bloat. It could also be the case that loot (or guns in particular) have a longer lifespan before they are cleaned up. But my gut tells me it's just a error of omission by the devs and it might just get fixed in a patch. I have only recently reached a level high enough that I am no longer looting everything, so I'll be on the lookout for remnant guns and the like form now on. I haven't heard of anyone else complaining about this yet, so it could also be a one-off of your game. Maybe it's mod related, installed any?. Who knows?

haven't used any mods so far ^^

just saw another bunch of pipe weapons laying around in Cambridge... an area I haven't visited for like 20-30 hours :/

I guess it will most likely not be an issue, but it's still a tiny bit annoying :D

It will lead to save game bloat, unless Bethesda fix it.

I recommend picking them up and selling them.

One question: Were these weapons in the dead actor's inventory or were they dropped on the ground from their cold, dead hands? It would svck even more if inventory item(s) were somehow being spawned as a death items or the like.

It's a bug that has carried over from Skyrim, where it was never fixed despite being reported since week 1.

No, it is not safe.

It causes savegame bloat which leads to markedly longer loading times and can lead to savegame corruption.

You now have, like in Skyrim, no choice but to be a janitor and clean up after your fallen enemies. This problem is a serious one for console players, less so for those on pc.

don't know ^^

aren't they always in the inventory?

the weapons don't disappear when you kill raiders, do they? they just fall on the ground, but are still displayed in their inventory

and you can pick them up either from the ground or from the inv... as far as I remember :D

edit: this is from the unofficial skyrim patch from nexus:

appears to be the same 'bug' that they've fixed back then ^^

While you can loot the bodies and pick up dropped weapons from within the inventory, you can also pick up the dropped weapon and never loot the inventory.I generally pick up any weapons lying on the ground, but may ignore those left in inventory. I say this because I've never seen this before and I played Skyrim extensively (getting there with FO4) and never noticed loose weapons left after enemies were cleared - despite the info given by Merari. I'm sure I left various cheap weapons (spears and the like) all over Skyrim. Fallout 3 had real issues with save game bloat that could render the game virtually unplayable for some people. It's been a while, but I though at least some of the issues behind that were fixed - as I never encountered them after applying the FO3 patch - and I had zero issues with Skyrim, but that could just be luck.

In the end, my question is answered, these are the weapons dropped by killed enemies. You didn't loot a thing, right?

yup ^^ they may even be weapons from a random fight between other NPCs, that I just didn't see... who knows :D

I've also never had any problems with my saves in F3, FNV and Skyrim... and so far F4 has also been very stable

we'll see... maybe they just needed more time to despawn

Yeah, I've heard a ton of talk about dropped weapons "bloating" saves, but I've never played janitor and my saves still work fine after hundreds of hours. It should be fixed, sure, but I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone talking about a serious save bloat issue that was caused by persistent ash piles or dropped weapons.

Or break down, just dumping in any container would also help, preferable an body.
Note that save bloat is probably an smaller problem because game is 64 bit

Spears in Skyrim? That would have been great but I only know the dump Riekling weapons labelled as spears.

There is a mod that prevents weapons from dropping loose: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3757/?

Did not try it out yet.

I sometimes walk around the outskirts of diamond city, after a while the weapons really pile up thanks to turrets/Diamond city security and their frequent clashes with muties.

Fast travelled to it after like 2 weeks in-game of not being there, got a nice haul,17 or so weapons.

It can cause bloat, if left alone.

But you can stop that by regularly depositing the junk you have into workshops so you rarely need to leave junk like that laying around, or just drop them into the bodies of nearby dead things (which will despawn and take the dropped items with them.)

I suspect that it theoretically can also cause a formID issue, which would destroy your game. Fortuantly, the game uses a 8-digit hex code to track items. That means... letsee, you'd need to leave in excess of about 268,000,000 weapons and random junk lying around before that would happen. So, yeah, that's probably never going to happen with any game unless you specifically work to it.

As others have stated, it is a bug from Skyrim that has not been fixed.

There was a Skyrim mod that fixed the abandoned weapon issue as well as other issues as well, I think it was called "Possessive Corpses". I am going to guess a someone will create a similar mod for Fallout 4.

Sometimes I collect those worthless (at my stage of the game) weapons and either scrap 'em at one of my settlements or I dump 'em into a corpse if I am carrying too much weight.

Back in Fallout 3 days, when using the Geck to create cells, there was a little bar that grew as you filled up the cell with objects. I think the size bar in FO4 settlements is basically the same thing. As you fill up the cell, the bar turns yellow then red - indicating you've maxed out the number of objects that can safely be displayed under minimum game requirements. I'm guessing here, but as the number of weapons and other stuff left behind in a cell increase, it adds to this total. So, save game bloat might just be the manifestation of a full cell with more memory requirement than can be handled. That would explain why many people wouldn't have an issue with it now as their machines are far form the minimum. Also, it would depend on the cell. My worst frame rates occur on a flotilla of sunken ships, planks and junk. That is probably one cell I don't want too many left-over weapons in. Also, I think this was more of an issue with FO3 as the minimum requirements were something like 1GB or the like. FO4 uses the same game engine as FO3, but the machines are so much beefier now, that save game bloat probably isn't as big a deal.

Also, I know that other will say that save game bloat is caused by the size of the save game, and I don't disagree. I'm just offering how I think that bloat might effect the game.

Yeah. You know how long it would take to gather and distribute 268 million weapons? If you managed one every 10 seconds, it would take just short of 100 years, and that's if you never left your keyboard.

how is this any different from users placing weapons, props, etc in their settlements? as long as there isn't a resource issue with the code, I say it is allright. adds to the "warning" to others of the fate they may meet there :)
