PALADIN DANSE POST GAME BREAKER HELP

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 3:21 am

I've seen this posted a few times but cannot get an answer. So in short. I was in a relationship with danse. Maxed affinity. Spared his life. I then relocated him to sanctuary. Sided with railroad. But after destroying the brotherhood and institute, danse, who is still at sanctuary, will no longer talk to me.

There is no dialogue, not even random. And when I try to speak to him, my character says she has some things to trade. I cannot add him as a companion or move him from sanctuary. This is a serious game breaker if I have a companion I cannot talk to or move or even go on quests with. Can someone help?

It's not broken. Danse will no longer speak to you if you're an enemy of the Brotherhood.

Really? Even though he was kicked from the brotherhood? And nearly executed by Maxxon? Even if you're in a relationship with him?

He lives, he's not hostile,

but he's no longer your travelling buddy.

It's fine, he can shoot raiders at your home base.

If he was your squeeze, then that's a shame, life is tough...

The game isn't 'broken' but this outcome is not particularly nuanced, I agree with that.

I would have liked to have talked Haylen round as well, but you can't have everything...

His flesh may be synthetic, but his heart still burns with love for the Brotherhood. That's never changed. He may love you, but that person he loved and knew for what, a few weeks? Months? Just destroyed a major part of what his entire life has been for years. His blind affection may forgive you to the point where he isn't turning your head into a pile of ash in revenge, but he can't possibly forgive you enough for destroying what amounts to his entire family. To betray the Brotherhood, you very likely had to kill Scribe Haylen. How do you think that will affect him?

Thank you Sofajockey. I actually romanced everyone in my play though. But having Danse no longer associate with you should be an issue. I know he doesn't go all hostile. But you should at least be able to have a conversation, or a charisma/relationship check.
I know that Preston lost his crap when I got back to sanctuary because I forgot to evac the civvies from the institute. And he called me a mass murderer. But I didn't lose Preston.
I just think it's very odd for danse to still stay loyal to the brotherhood after being released from his position and nearly killed.

Preston never knew the Institute personnel the way Danse knew the Brotherhood. For Preston, it was a vague idea that there were innocents that should be spared. For Danse, those were his family, the people he grew with as a person and grew to love. It's a lot more personal.

In any RPG, each individual option is not necessarily fleshed out to the nth degree.

That's what has happened here.

Assuming that:

  • You save Danse in the BoS quest line. AND
  • You bomb the BoS to hell

These are eventualities that Bethesda have not 'populated' with additional dialogue.

Maybe because they felt they weren't very likely,

or maybe because Fallout 4 is not match.com...

It's a shame, as I think there will be plenty of people who will have done both (myself included)

but there it is.

Well, I sided with BoS, and Danse made it pretty clear that even being how he is, he is still loyal to, and agrees with the BoS' recommended course of action.
Maybe they could have included some dialogue for your situation, saying he is glad to be alive, but is too conflicted to travel with you.

Of course. I understand what the brotherhood means to danse. But maybe a post conversation, angry or pissed at you or whatever. I just didn't realize he'd just become off limits to you. I think I was more upset that I couldn't romance Deacon, but I did enjoy having danse as an option.
