I want to exterminate the minutemen

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 3:00 pm

Just a little premise, first: I'm really loving the game, I'm playing the crap out of it.

now the problem: o-m-f-g! Preston Garvey is haunting my gameplay with the 3-4 same kind of missions, and it has become really really boring.

Only today, 2 rescue missions in a row in Dunwitch Borers raider settlement. JEEEEEEEEZZZ! Stop it!

Is there a way to avoid or dismiss the minutemen missions till I change my mind? Please, help! I know I am free to ignore those missions in my quest menu, and even to pay the ransom if I don't want to face the very same mission again and again and again, but if there is a command (on ps4! no mods availabel! :( ) to disable Garvey, I really need to know that. Or I'm going to put a 0.50 bullet in his head!

The solution is to send Preston to a settlement where you're not likely to accidentally run into him. Then complete whatever active Minutemen radiant quests you have, but don't go talk to Preston after completing it. As far as I can tell, you'll never fail the quest as a result of not talking to Preston, but you won't get assigned any more of them either until you do. This has worked for me. I'd recommend giving it a try.

This worked for me, FWIW.

but he is a good way to gain EXP for perk junkys. in skyrim have to cast spells 1000 times to gain perks. going out and killing nastys with loot is better.

This is true, but there are a lot of other good ways to earn XP too. I've done at least a few dozen of the radiant "Raider/Ghoul/Super Mutant Problem" type quests and another dozen or so of the "Kidnapping at _______" quests. There's definitely a lot of good XP and loot to be had on these quests. They're just really repetitive.

For what it's worth, there isn't any actual consequence to failing most of these. The Kidnapping at ________ quests are a bit different though. You actually DO lose one of your settlers from the settlement if you don't complete it. If you have the settler equipped with different items, you're losing that too. This isn't normally a big deal, but it's worth a mention.

In my last one it was "Kidnapping at Sanctuary Hills." When I got there I clearly recognized the settler because she was the one assigned to the bar/restaurant that I have at Sanctuary. She was wearing the charisma boosting outfit that I'd equipped her with (not sure if that actually makes a difference in her sales), so I'm glad I rescued her.

I agree that these quests can be a nice way to kill time if you don't feel like doing something more involved, I think the OP's complaint is that he gets one or two of them basically every time he goes home.

Sending Preston elsewhere is the best answer because, if you do want some of those quests, he's just a fast-travel away. But if you want to be left alone you have the option.

Thanks for the advice. But sometimes, some random settlers will ask for help as I walk by them. Preston is not the only one that can trigger those missions. Does your technique stop that also? If so, it would be great.

Why bother doing settlements at all if you have no interest in any of the side-quests involved in them.

Just dismantle all your settlements and kill off your settlers. Problem solved.

Alternatively, send them all to some distant point and never go there and just ignore them.

EDIT on this: I did that once. I sent them all to Spectacle and never visited. Life was very peaceful until the guilt set in.

I skipped Concord in my second game. Yes, settlers can trigger those missions too, but it happens only sometimes, in a frequency that was ok, at least for me.

i got to the point with the kidnapping ones that i just pay the ransom and trade caps for an equal amount of xp. Not bad if you have plenty of money.

My solution was to setup a "settlement" with no people. Just me, Dogmeat, Drinking buddy, and occasionally the Mr. handy that runs the supply line.

Sooo peaceful. Well, except the random super mutant attacks, but those tend to break against my turrets like wave against a jetty.
