Oh Slim shady!

OK. hi all new here.

I have about a day and half of gameplay in on Xboxone at moment.

I was wandering around an area and managed to grab a legendary shotgun, yay me! I then ran into a guy called Slim. He had this place with all crafting stations. I asked if I could use them and he was OK with it.

I get out of my suit and start work on modding my new shotgun.

When I turn around, Slim had hopped into my suit! He would not get out of it! I had to steal stuff to get him to then fight me. All I could do was kill him and then collect all the parts, not the exo skeleton!

It got me thinking, I wonder if other NPC's are able to take over the suits? Not had any settlers take over a spare at Sanctuary yet!

You need to take out the fusion core or people will just steal it...

If there's an empty suit nearby and they enter combat, NPCs will step into it. Pull out the Fusion Core to prevent this from happening. (also, if you can pickpocket the fusion core from a suit they've stepped into, they'll be forced to step out)

Any NPC can take your power armor. You just need to take the Fusion Core out of it when you're not using it and they won't be able to do that.

Think of your power armor like a car and the fusion core in it is the keys; NPCs WILL get in and use your 'car' if you leave it unattended. The trick is to get out and then remove the fusion core, they won't steal it then. With this guy, if you'd sneaked up on him and pickpocketed the fusion core out of it, he would be forced to get out of it. He'd be upset and you'd have to kill him, but your armor would be intact.

Yes, anyone can steal your parked suit if you leave the "keys" in it (don't leave a fusion core in your suit when you park it).

Annoying, possibly. But taking the fusion cores out is just safe and practical procedure here. Whats three seconds to remove a core in comparison to losing a very expensive frame?
