Odd power armor restrictions

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 12:44 pm

Starting power armor play trough aside from my main campaign where never used it.

Not a big deal at all but compelled to post irony of some restrictions in power armor. I get for game balance purposes there may be reasons (not that I agree), but it is very odd that:

1- can't access some terminals wearing power armor - the wall mounted ones you can, but the desk or slot computer ones built into various facilities, you can't. Ok fine, so far I can go with the logic - power armor gauntlets aren't made for typing.

2- you can't access craft benches to make stuff - again, I can see logic of you can't craft with precision needed when wearing PA.

-but you can adroitly handle delicate lock pick / bobby pins in same power armor?

Seems like contradiction - either fine detail, dexterity related activities are obstructed by PA or not. Bethesda seems to have picked kinda randomly where the logic isn't consistent.

Getting in and out of armour to pick locks would svck, so it's not there. I've not found any console limitations on hacking in armour.

But like you said, you can access wall terminals...I like to think it's more an issue of squeezing into a desk in PA as why you cannot access those terminals..

The biggest restriction/disappointment for me was no unlimited sprint...I think you should be able to sprint for as long as you want in PA, as long as you have the fusion cores to do so..

There are a few terminals on top of desks that cannot be accessed in PA

Am I right that sneaking in power armor drains Fusion Cores faster, like power attacks/jumping? I messed around with my BOS suit a little today and it looked like that was the case. That said I really don't think sneaking in Power Armor makes any sense, even if there is a way to do it. Why bother?

I also don't see it as exploration gear. I feel like at best the idea is to use Power armor for combat-heavy scenarios (BOS story quests, for example). The way they scatter suits around the map it's like they're tactically placed for access for specific locations and quests.

Take that with a grain of salt, mind you- I'm playing a stealth/tech head build (hacking systems and bots, scoped energy weapons) so the power armor feels really wrong and clunky to me. Fun for a couple of minutes now and then, but doesn't strike me as something I would play the whole game in.

My main campaign still playing 150+ hrs is stealth sniper with zero PA use. But wanted to try PA run so started side campaign and enjoy the change of pace. The infrared helmet target hud is pretty cool. Still prefer stealth play but full on PA rambo is nice change of pace every now and then.

Just wish didnt have to keep getting in/out of armor to hack terminals.

Yeah, I like it for the change of pace when I tried it today but the mission I was on I didn't run across any terminals so I'm just learning about having to get out to hack (but not lockpick? Wtf, lol?).

I was curious about the visor mods- definitely going to give it a try.

Just had a thought: Chameleon mod for power armor.

If you like to stealth snipe, then all i can say is the helmet mod for imfrared detection is omg delicious. Super dark night, perched on a roof overlooking boston, you can see red body signatures from far, far away. Further than the max modded sniper rifle range.

Tbh, in this side campaign i am wearing PA mostly to rambo 50% but also 50% just sneak around at night and sniping from high perches. Am usimg darker nights mod so the PA helmet is really useful to see targets at night from extreme ranges. I still took the stealth perk to eliminate noise from movement/running and that allows you to sneak remarkably well even in PA. (Which is also another odd thung but oh well)

MWAHAHAHA!!! You've got me fired up! Maybe I will commit the perk points for Nuclear Physicist after all because I might actually be using my power armor now!

Power Armour doesn't get in the way of my stealthing. Full suit of power armour, that sweet delicious targetting helmet, and I'm still crawling up to people without them noticing - sometimes with my bright headlamp on. Granted, with your agility in the high numbers and your sneaking perks well devoted, walking up to enemies in power armour still surprises them :P

I just love the idea of sneaking up behind someone in power armor and cold-cocking them in the back of their f**king head!
