Sending Companions Back to Their Original Locations

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 6:59 am

We should be able to send companions back to their original locations. Right now, the dialogue box only gives the option to dismiss your companion to one of your settlements. For example, if Nick Valentine was my current companion and I pick up Dogmeat, I can either send Nick Valentine to any settlement of mine or he automatically goes back to Sanctuary (because I had assigned him there before). There's no way to send him back to the Valentine Detective Agency unless you've never sent him anywhere else. This is ridiculous... I mean, Nicky-boy's got a detective agency to run in Diamond City and I don't want every single one of my followers holed up in Sanctuary when they're not with me.

Patch or mod; I'd be happy with either. Whatever gives me the option to send followers back to their original locations.

Hit whichever button/key is exit/back/cancel for you, instead of selecting a text option. They will go back to their original location, then.

If you've sent your companion to a settlement in the past, this won't work. For example, I've sent Nick Valentine to Sanctuary before. Thus, if I back out of the dialogue and not select any settlement for him to go to, he'll default back to Sanctuary. Exiting out of the dialogue to send the companion back to their original location only works if you haven't ever sent them anywhere else.

I'd like to see a mod/patch that adds the option in the dialogue to send them back to their original location, so we can still send them back to these locations even if we've sent them to a settlement before.

Yeah, doesn't Danse have some really important BoS crap to do?

In my game he's wearing Minuteman T45 (instead of his BoS T60), serving drinks in Sanctuary (he doesn't actually get behind the bar due to his armor, but he still sells the booze).

Ah, my mistake, I hadn't seen that in the original post.
Obviously, I've not sent any companions to settlements.

Yes to all. Hence the issue. Bethesda, please put this in a future patch! I'd love for this to be a thing!

Been wondering this myself. Also I seem to recall the game help files specifically state that you can send your companion to "any of your settlements or their original location" but it doesn't exactly specify that you need to actually use "cancel" to get them to their home place which is counter intuitive to say the least. That's why I have sent some of them to Sanctuary before I used the cancel on someone assuming it'll cancel the companion chance. Was I surprised when I noticed that was actually the magical way to sent them to their homes which was missing in the location menu.

I would like this as well...

I would also love to see more interaction between the companions. Having Danse, Deacon and X6-88 (iirc) all at Red Rocket makes them easy to find but still feels odd...

I would have scattered my companions throughout the settlements if there was some way of tracking where they are in game...

I am all on board with this. Discovered this problem ahttp://www.gamesas.com/topic/1557954-possible-to-send-companions-to-original-locations/#entry24565140. Alas, there were no fixes then and I haven't seen one since - but I definitely want it. Hancock is a rather useless mayor if all he does is walk around on my roof.

There isn't even much use in sending them to settlements, either, as they cannot be assigned to anything (they take tasks upon themselves automatically).

Same here, learned if you send a companion to a settlement, that becomes their new default home. Wish I'd known this before. Now Pipers sister is all alone in Diamond City. Nick, should be there, but nope, in a settlement on the coast.

Cait, is the only one I don't mind, rather her not go back to the Combat Zone.

Best thing for a new player, or game, dismiss and backout when is asks where to send them.

This is what I plan to do on my next playthrough. I just wish there was an option in the dialogue box to send them back to their "default location".

This is one of the most annoying design choices they made IMO. It's almost as annoying as not being able to simply hit the "T" key and wait as you could in every other game in their history. Why they decided you have to sit in a chair is beyond me.

Thankfully, mods should be able to remedy these poor design choices.
