Unable to shoot fusion core from Power Armor.

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 10:58 am

Hey

I am unable to shoot fusion core′s from power armors.

In the Youtube video below you can see me hitting it 3 times with a 50.cal :

After youtube.com put in the line below :

/watch?v=Ugkz_hm3lUg

I have tried with different weapons from different distances but same issue.

In the youtube video below you can see a different player being able to shoot it from the same NPC so it really should work for me too!

/watch?v=ISAw32W5B5Y

I tried to mimic his way (Running around him shooting it with Kellogg′s revolver) but still same issue.

Tried reinstalling FO4 and not using any mods - Same issue.

What can i try? :(

Any help would be really appreciated!

Thanks

Your video is a bit short. So, he just keeps moving around? Like in the other video, it takes a while after the graphics effect of the fusion core being hit for the fusion core to explode and for him to exit the armor.

I've managed to shoot out a fusion core just once. It took several shots, but it did come out after turning red and ejected... then promptly exploded killing me in the process. Haven't been able to shoot one since and stopped wasting my time trying to get enemies to turn around when they just spin around and face me.

I do realize it might take some shots. My 50.cal does 140 dmg with 1 shot and i am sure i hit 9-10 of them (95% hit chance in VATS) but in the end the NPC just dies instead of the fusion core exploding...

I tried with less damaging weapons (Pipe rifle with like 24 dmg? XD) and hitting more shots but it ends with me just spending a long fakking time killing the guy really slowly making me more angry .... :P

I understand the frustration... that's why I stopped. It was taking too long to attempt to get behind the guy and shoot the core, even with a high VATS chance. I just figured it wasn't meant to be and pressed on with the game.

Well it doesnt take that long for me to get behind the guy...If you look in my video you can see i am standing behind a shed like building and just need to go around the corner to shoot the fusion cores 3 times before he turns around.

I then go back behind the shed and crouch and he will go back to the same place after awhile. Then i just repeat that :D

I had the same issue earlier in the game and then i could not be bothered but now i have decided to solve this before i move on. ( I collect frames.. ^^ )

Although I haven't checked in practice the odds is that Fusion Cores have an HP value the same way as any other limbs, and once it's nullified a critical effect is getting triggered. If that happens with a leg, the (N)PC won't be able to stand on his feet.

With a Fusion Core, the result will be an explosion and the actual user trying to get out of the frame asap. My bet is that you haven't done enough damage to the Core, even if I know it's tricky to tell as you can't see it's HP separately from the actor.

That was my first thought as well but since the guys dies before the core explode that would be weird?

If the core has more HP then the actual NPC then no one would be able to shoot the core out since he would die first :D

First, I didn't say the Core has more HP than the actor and second, even if it was the case your assumption would be only necessary true in the absence of target-specific aiming system. Remember, you can kill enemies by shooting their legs off.

Such events are probably the result of doing so much damage to the actual limb that it'd kill the NPC regardless of where he has been hit. I think it's safe to assume that actor NPC HP > Core HP, but the latter only gets damage if specifically targeted.

You wrote : " My bet is that you haven't done enough damage to the Core"

But as i stated earlier several times i shoot the core until the character actually dies. I tried in VATS with 95% hit chance and also not using VATS. So if what you wrote is true then indirectly that means that the core has more HP which is why i wrote that. I did not mean to offend you and i am sorry if it seemed that way.

Sometimes it just doesn't happen, no clue why. And on higher levels and with more powerful weaponry, the user usually dies before the core explodes

It's really easy to do what you are trying to do. You just sneak up behind the person and then you go to VATS and then you attack or steal the fusion core.

I think you are just a big n0-0b player.

Well, that's weird. Usually a shot or two with a .308 sniper does the job for me.

I′ll test a .308 and see what happens :)

My bad then, I missed the "shoot the core" part. Anyway, I still think that as long as you hit the NPC somewhere he (=his HP) always gets damage, while the Core needs to be targeted specifically. So if you indeed hit only the Core and ended up killing the guy this way, then it's possible that the core has more HP than the actor. Unlikely, but logically possible.

Another thing that'd be worth to try if it's possible to destroy the Fusion Core without VATS. You know, same way as Critical Hits are VATS-only too. Because if so, and turns out it's not even possible to do damage to the FC itself outside of VATS, then it'd answer a few questions. Last time I was able to steal a Power Armor was from a Raider at Dunwich Borers, and I'm sure I hit his FC from Sneak / VATS for the first time. After that? I'm not sure. But he blew up after a few shots from a ~50 DMG fully-customized Pipe Rifle.
