Why did Bethesda remove the WAIT function?

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 11:02 am

Yes you can sit in chairs and wait, but why remove being able to wait anywhere? I wonder what their creative decision was for this? It does force you into the moment somewhat, being lost in the wild at night is always good, but it has its bad points too, like wanting to do a night raid but its still noon with no chairs/beds about.

Ultimately, I think it was a bad move. Just another instance of changing something that didnt need to be. Since Daggerfall we've been able to wait on the spot, why remove such a convienience?

"Waiting with a button svcks, it should be more immersive like sitting in a chair" - said no one EVER.

I like it for immersion purposes. How immersive is it to just stand in one spot for 9 hours? At least if you are sitting down you could RP that you took a nap, or read some books or something.

Meh. Doesn't bother me. I never used the function anyway. I'd always find a bed and sleep instead; I really didn't like the idea of just standing around like a lemon. I guess I just roleplay too deeply though.

I like the change... it always felt weird to imagine standing on the same spot for several hours.

It also forces you to play a bit more with the time. Go somewhere else for a few hours, if you need to wait, but always keep watching the clock ^^ makes roleplaying way more enjoyable

now they need to limit the fast traveling ^_^

Ya, I like the change, but they really should have introduced it in some quest. Like so many things in this game, you have to figure it out on your own. That's nice to an extent, but Fo4 falls at the opposite extreme.

Just find a chair ya big baby. In future games, we might even see foot fatigue, where the game slows us down after exploring too many hours and force us to sit or lie down for awhile.

It's not like you could, oh I don't know, sit on the ground, or a large rock, or a car, or a guard rail, or a log, or some rubble, or a dead super mutant, and wait.

Philosophically, I like the idea. In practice, it removes the tactical use of waiting until dawn/dusk to attack a camp you came across.

Needlessly tedious change, personally.

Completely agree with the OP...I was disappointed to see it gone, and have to find something to sit on to wait..

No they don't...you can do that on your own ;)

That'd be really cool. I'd love a fatigue factor... After an 8 hour trek around the wasteland all the while fighting various enemies, getting tired and needing a bed makes perfect sense to me. Even if you could just carry a bed roll and pitch a campsite at night would be cool!

Mostly an issue if trapped during an radiation storm in an ruin without chairs.

Secondary is tactical as then to hit an location.

I would be okay with that as well. I'm referring to just standing straight-up stock-still for hours on end.

I'd love to be able to sit on a rock and rest for an hour with a bottle of purified water.

It took a minute to get used to but I'm fine with it. Prefer it actually. Seldom have I been somewhere that there isn't something I can sit on or lay down on anyway.

Considering that in past games, Waiting 73 hours is a valid method to clear scripts in a cell or reset something, this is not a good thing to remove from the game.

As for waiting some place for several hours, this is something people do. Every hear of a Stake Out? Hanging out someplace and watching the world go by?

You shouldn't even be able to wait out or fast travel away from a radiation storm. The game prevents you from fast travel if you are taking damage, but since the rad damage is intermittent, it is possible to do so. If you get caught in a bad place like that then it's your own fault, it's not like there isn't any signs that bad weather is coming.

Without going off too far on a tangent, there should be better places to wait out storms. Otherwise, how would anyone have survived all this time in any of the settlements that don't have an interior with a load zone. If there is a door, roof, and windows, it should at least reduce the amount of rads you take in a storm...

I agree. Hiding from storms can be a pain. If in Sanctuary I have to go to the cellar.

Why does every try to come up with stupid reasons for things getting removed from a game? Now I don't play a stealth char so I myself have never needed to wait someplace that didn't have a chair but why remove the option? Want to roleplay here's a tip. DONT USE IT! that's right you can just ignore the wait system all together if that's your thing but some of us got jobs and stuff like that and want to be able to hurry stuff along.

Mm, I got one rad storm when I was out so deep that there really wasn't any chairs around. Popped few Rad-X (they seem to stack, at least for few times) and suddenly the storm was a non issue :o Not sure if they are more lethal on the higher difficulty levels.

There seem to be plenty of places to sit. Piper seems to find them easily enough.
