Fallout 4 PC UI

Okay. They do some things different from other devs, other things the same. So couldn't you make these exact same complaints about the vast majority of other multiplatform games? Especially since you seem to be using an unorthodox set of custom keybinds - you aren't using WASD?

And you don't get to call the devs lazy just because they didn't cater to your very specific needs. That's ridiculously entitled.

Yes. And if they initially made the UI for PC, I'd expect them to do another UI for consoles. User controls are just too different between the two systems to share a UI. I wouldn't expect them to go: ohh.. we ran out of buttons on the controller and we still have to map melee and grenade.. ahh, we'll just map those buttons to controller 2 and call it a day.

With a little bit of forethought when making engine modifications, modifying the UI would take one developer less than a week to configure. Maybe two weeks if thoroughly tested. There isn't much work for other departments either, as very few unique assets that need to be created.

The UI is my only major issue with FO4. This isn't just an issue with Bethesda, but many AAA companies that design for multiple systems. I really don't see why it's such an issue, because its such a simple thing to do.

:)

I scratched my head for a while when this popped up on the screen: Enter) Exit

Bethesda are probably the worst UI designers in the industry. Might as well mention mouse lag in menus as well.

The question is valid, the answer disappointing. Consoles can't handle extensive flash elements, because they are very ressource demanding, hence why we all get a dumbed down version of a game, that its creators created the illusion it would be for PC. Sounds logic, doesn't it? Why do all the work if others can do it, and they get all the money. What an irony that knowing this, most of the reactionary community spoke out against payed modding. It's obvious, we PC gamers are much to spoiled, we should limit ourselves to 10 buttons, and low quality display. We deserve no better. Only thing that was missing is a rod to chasten ourselves, we were very, very bad boys.

What!? I really liked that guy, had a pleasant aura surrounding him, but now...THIS IS BLASPHEMY!!!

Dear Mr. Howard, in case you think your and your teams effort was enough for FO4, then I respectfully want to tell you, it wasn't. However, I couldn't care less, winter vacancy is coming and I, as well as thousands of other modders need to stay busy, so that you and your console ordinarys can enjoy life...:D

Are you forgetting that The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind has the best UI for a PC version of a video game ever? Especially a RPG video game?

Maybe it's nostalgia I don't know, but so far no UI beats the PC version The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind's UI, not even Divinity Original Sin or The Witcher, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, etc.

I won't comment on the PC version of Fallout 4's UI since I still have not purchased Fallout 4 and do not know what the UI feels like on PC, but the PC version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's UI is terrible on PC, even the PC version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion's UI on PC is better.

I have read some comments about Todd preferring console over PC. Just to clear things up- back in the old Fallout 3 days I remember that Todd said that he liked to use a wired controller through a PC rig. So, yes, that could certainly be part of the problem.

Personally I love the Xbox One but have a heap of upset friends on PC who have to wait months and months for these things to be corrected by the modding community. That is just plain wrong....

It is kinda perplexing why something so popular wouldn't be included in future iterations of Bethesda games. The ui has always been a problem not to mention the fov.

E works in almost every situation where it says Enter, except for times like facegen when it already has a purpose.

I don't see what the big deal is. You can resize all the windows and fit them all on one screen, but so what? Organization is a pain in the ass, since everything in the inventory is thumbnails (and the enchantment effect overlay obscures a lot) instead of a list - and a lot of the thumbnails for books and potions are identical. The spell list doesn't organize spells by school or type or anything, just alphabetically. There aren't any hotkeys for quick container looting (Fallout 4 easily has the best looting of any Bethesda game). I have to spend more time fiddling with Morrowind's UI to accomplish what I want compared to any of the later games - but everyone says it's amazing. It's overrated. I don't get it.

You are aware that 10-15% of the worlds population is left handed right? When I am not able to bind the keys in a way that makes sense for a lefthanded person, there is something wrong. No other game I have come across on the PC that ask me to use WASD + Arrow keys + Enter to navigate around a "simple" menu. The UI is a mess, because if I was to bind my movement to the arrow keys, which I can, the hardcoding of keybindings gets in the way. For example, arrow keys is used in conversations. Whenever I approach a NPC with movement on arrows keys, and they start speaking before you initiate conversation, odds are that I have already choosen 'up' as my response because the game have already registered it. If I were to bind E to something else than activation, E is still used for closing containers.

I can only concur, that Bethesda really needs to step up their game regarding their PC users, and acknowledge that some of us are lefthanded. It doesn't make sense, in a modern era gaming culture, that systems are this stiff and unwieldy. Can it really be that hard to make us able to use whatever keybinds we want? I don't think so.

Problem is an horrible keymaping, lots of use of enter to confirm, not an problem had not lots of keys been hardcoded.

On the positive side controlls behave better than in Skyrim where the mouse was pretty unresponsive in menu's and it was easy to select wrong.

If also have the other standard issue in lack of information, the new looting system is nice but it would be nicer to see weight and value of stuff you loot.

Yeah, I own 2.500 games, and none of them has that amount of restrictions concerning rebinding keys...think about it...;)

While I think Bethesda is one of the greatest game companys in history, I also believe they completely douched it this time. And they continue acting with complete ignorance, if you look at the latest patch. Who cares if 25% of users can't play the game. It's important that Todd can play it on his controler...that's what matters.

In the past I thought games are pruely made for fun, but nowadays it seems it's more like encouraging a philosophical battle on how to play a game. Whatever, if the Todd says we're supposed to play the game with controlers, then we're supposed to play the game with controlers. The Todd has spoken, and the sheeps will follow^^
