Fix the companion AI

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 7:33 pm

Companions get in your way and basically ruin a stealthy approach way too often. I can't even sneak properly without seeing my companion's weapon damn near glitching through my back. At least patch in some companion behavior options like in New Vegas, allowing us to adjust how passive / aggressive we want our companions to be. Also, map icons for your companions would also be nice.

Stealth and multiple people kind of go against each other. and the new vegas AI was WAY worse then fallout 4's, those AI changes did little to nothing and tended to not really work.

In real life, sure. Since companions are designed to engage sneak mode, they should at least keep their distance and not be literally right up on you. I definitely noticed the difference in New Vegas when I adjusted their behavior.

So far I've only really had pathing issues. Like if you try to send them over to a point on the other side of a table or a suit of power armour they'll bump up against the object while still going through a walking animation and then stop saying they can't get there. They should be able to just side step and walk around the obstruction.

With a stealth build I've taken Lone Wanderer and no companions. When I get a few ranks in Sneak I might start taking Dogmeat along.

Have them wait...send them home...or just don't bring them along...

They should pin a thread just for companions in FO4...

Yup, and that's not the only subject. Basically it's all the same subjects again and again in cycles - companions, settlements, UI, keybinding, etc, etc.

I will never take a companion, it's just too bad that there are quests that require it. You'd think that any major quest requiring a companion, they would have tweaked those quests especially. Instead, they're probably worse, as it seems you have zero control of your companion in those quests.

Make companions share your sneak perk because as it is now they are always heard.

I usually bring the mutt for extra carry cap. But for me it has been fairly painless...basically if I'm outside, I have him wait, I sneak closer do my thing, grab him when I'm done..honestly I have no problem with him outdoors, he seems to stick closer in sneak mode...also if you enter a building in a hostile environment, you can generally expect to have enemies to deal with...so again wait while I investigate...if I see red tics, and no voices...I let him loose, cuz it's most likely a ghoul or some other creature...sounds like a hassle, but it works for me till they fix it (if they even can)

Bethesda has had over 10 years to fix their AI. I really don't understand how this is acceptable in 2015.

Because no company has any better AI, that's why. Their AI is fine for a mass market game. It's as good as anything on the market today.

As for OP, Codsworth works fine for me. Certainly not right up behind me at any time, except perhaps in extremely close quarter areas when he cannot help it in order to stay with me, and even then he may simply go a different route or wait on his own until I am more accessible.

As was stated, NV was far worse.

Piper got stuck in a door. Took me about 10 minutes to find her and about 5 to make her cross the threshold.
