Fallout 4 has incorrect historical info about Boston Red Sox

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 1:49 pm

In the Boston Bugle, there's a terminal where you can read some of their articles from 2077. One of the articles says that the Boston Red Sox are going into the World Series, and it also says that's something they haven't done since 1918. However, the Boston Red Sox have won the World Series in 2004, 2007, and 2013. If the article was supposedly written in 2077, then shouldn't they have known that? Am I reading into this wrong or was the person at Bethesda who wrote that just not that keen into baseball? If that's the case, then it seems the higher-ups in the game's development missed it too.

Because the Fallout universe diverges after the 40's/50s.

In Fallout's universe, they apparently didn't.

The Gamebryo engine is from 1996. So maybe they've been developing this game since then - or at least the part involving your terminal.

In this world, you are correct.

In Fallout's world? Who really knows? http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline

According to Fallout 4 lore, baseball was playing by two opposing team that beat each other to death with sluggers, then signed the names of the defeated on cards. Yep.

Not the same time progression in the same world. MANY things in Fallout 4 are nothing like the (greater) Boston area IRL.

Try not to get too bogged down in the details :)

In the World Of Fallout America essentially stayed in the 1950's FOREVER. It's basically the World According To Your Grandpa. Anything that may have ruined the 50's vibe simply didn't happen. The 'Sox as World Champions just didn't fit in with the "Concept". It was WAY too "New Millennium".

There are lots of other Historical Anomalies as well.

For instance, while my home town of Saugus does, indeed, have an Ironworks, it is a quaint old Colonial Museum, not a modern metal Foundry and manufacturing plant.

The divergence....

its the same historical inaccuracies that lead to no Space shuttles, only rockets. no updated modern musicians like taylor swift....... eventhough its very possible they could be around, but their songs would just sound like 1950s versions. Similar to how in Bioshock Infinite, they have the song Tainted Love, but it sounds like its from the 1920s.

I know. That's hilarious. "Hey, [censored]. That's not how baseball works." You explain the real rules. Moe says, "Well, I like my version better!"

So Moe, might actually know his description of baseball isn't accurate, but it helps him sell bats to beat people with. ;) It's all about the sale.
