Having trouble with the persuasion dialog

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 10:15 pm

I am getting frustrated because when i first started this game a week ago i had no problem clicking on the yellow dialog option and having it be successful when trying to persuade people.

Now i am having the worst time with it because with only having 3 more levels to go before Charisma is maxed out, i am literally failing every single persuasion attempt and it is really getting on my nerves.

Is there a reason why in the beginning of the game i had no problem with it and now that i am almost maxed out on the perk it did the complete opposite to where i cant persuade at all?

I've seen the loading screens claim that the colors indicate a "difficulty" and there's a chance depending on the color. However, from what I've seen if it's not green it's an automatic fail.

I can't remember off-hand the color gradation, but it does vary in color depending on the difficulty of the persuasion check.

Beyond that, chances are it's just down to the luck of the "die rolls", most likely.

Yellow is a 50/50 and red is an auto fail.

But i have had nothing but yellow this whole time and most of the time it would always work and i figured that the higher my charisma was, the more often it would be successful but i have had literally nothing but fails since the middle to of any of the 3 storylines i did.

red does not auto fail; i've attempted - and made - several reds.

Has not gotten harder for me. Graqe Mentats. Quick save. Made it through all the checks with Brandis. Checked my stats in pipboy and boosted charisma was 11. Apparently boosts pass 10 in this game

The difficulty of the game gets harder the further south you go, and this includes dialogue. You can have a CHR of 10 and still fail yellow options, because Bethesda loves its dice rolls. I think it's crap, but there's a couple of things you can do to favor an outcome.

-Save during the dialogue. If you don't pass the option, reload and try again. This may take several attempts.

-Wear CHR boosting attire. I'm not sure why this works, but doing this, I've yet to fail any yellow. I don a red dress and a wig, which boosts CHR by 3. Most of the red options I've seen I wouldn't pick, so I can't offer a success rate.

The best advice I can offer: you fail, you accept the outcome. Not everyone can be persuaded, and I can positively attest (without spoilers) that sometimes that better option isn't the better option. I went online to see the outcome of the specific quest line and was glad I accepted the failed persuassion. The "better" option was anything but.

That's simply not true. I've passed plenty of YELLOW colored ones and even a few ORANGE ones. I've never wasted the time on RED ones tho.

Dude put on a militia hat and a sequin dress and then retry the conversation.

Also consider the lady killer/whatever-the-guy-version-of-that-perk-is-called perk.

Also always save before dicey conversations so you can try again if you screw the pooch.

That's false.

THE COLORS DO NOT INDICATE DIFFICULTLY FOR YOUR CHARACTER. The colors only indicate the general difficulty of the check in the first place as a baseline. A difficult check will show bright red for a Charisma 1 character AND a Charisma 10 character.

My Lvl 40 Charisma build character had 10 in Charisma, wore a Charisma boosting hat, and had 3 Ranks in Black Widow. I could pick bright red persuasion options all day long with no failures.

I imagine the more further in the main plot you get the more difficult it will be because it's later game. At least in terms of script. So early game yellow will be much easier then later game yellow as a result. Probably gets more difficult the further south you go as well. Again, south yellow may be harder then north yellow.

I just max charisma ASAP just to be sure I have the best chance. Still failed once or twice. But 9/10 times it's a success.

QFT

I just always have a charisma set with me. Suit, hat, and glasses add 4 charisma and I've passed every single check I've had to make thus far. Did have to save and retry a few times if I forgot to put the suit on though.

Plus, it's not a direct comparison of Charisma like those skill dialogue requisites in New Vegas. I've failed a yellow and succeeded on a red with the same individual while having the same Charisma.

Yeah pretty sure yellow means easy, orange is medium, and red is hard. Although with the dice roll it can easily negate what difficulty it is regardless and make you constantly fail or randomly succeed on your first try.

I remember failing an orange one over and over again but then a red came up and I got it the first try. This with CHA 1 mind you.

Yeah, pretty random.
