Chained sneak attacks (melee) not working in VATS

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 12:07 pm

Hey folks, maybe u can help me out here. :)

After some training i rly got the hang of stealth in this game. Its crazy difficult at times without gear and i freaking love it.

However, whats bugging me is that somehow chained sneak attacks aren't working with melee weapons

I've been trying so long now, even with very good gear and reasonable positioning, only the first hit is accomplished as a stealth attack, every following attack i lined up in vats was executed as a normal hit.

When i just took out one enemy at the time i wasn't detected, switched back in vats and could get the second and third stealth kill, but why isn't it working with chained attacks??

Thanks alot in advance!

Since you can chain them I assume your targets quite close to each other, so I guess they can see the man sized...man stabbing there friend, just because ya using vats doesn't mean ya blink teleport like you're a ninja in a anime.

I think u didn't read the part where i mentioned, that they don't detect me, when i'm going for each kill in vats seperatly, in the exact same situation, and i succesfully can kill all targets with sneakattacks?

Its basicly the same thing, just with reentering vats everytime to kill the next one.

And when ya chain them ya character doesn't crouch in between attacks, so your out of stealth mode, plus your guy more or les randomly chooses where he stands when he attacks, so he obviously gets spotted.

Not valid either, since all targets are in stabbing range, no walking needed. :o And i can stab my targets right in the face without them noticing me. (When its not chained)

But obviously when ya do chain ya get spotted, simple as that.

Question is why, since there is no way to explain it except a failure of logic or simply a bug.

Btw, i opened this thread to check if others experience the same and what can be done about it, not for u to make up some whiny thearies about why it should not be possible. o.ò

Most likely its a oversight during coding, or a intentional gameplay balance decision.

Hey ya where asking, I just did the best anyone besides the devs can do, and gave a theory.

Well... a few things could happen.

Like mentioned, vats may force you out of crouching for sneak attacks.
Or... it's possible that someone had spotted you, enemies seem to be cleverly placed in a fashion where they can notice things happening around them. I've also noticed that there are certain points of caution where you don't actually get your sneak attack bonus.
Or it's possible that something glitched, or there may be a cool down to sneak attacks. (Rapidly shivving someone in the back seems pretty broken IMO)

i dont really use melee.. as in a game with guns.. you know dont bring a knife to a gun fight and all.. but you can teleport around in vats... with a perk you basically teleport to people... that doesnt really help with your problem though.
