Covenant as settlement guide

Covenant is potential settlement with I see as the most beautiful houses that nearly still intact.

The place is not that big, but big enough to make as the primary settlement, in case you need to play a new game and want a primary settlement that beautiful but not to big.

Problem is if you don't side with 'x' :

1. The items, containers still marked as not owned, that means if you take it the game consider as stealing.

2. Another problem is the turrets don't give real defense and are not your ally.

3. There yet still problem, 3 of 4 houses in covenant have locked doors, so your settlers can't use it.

Here is the solutions : (only if you side against 'x')

1. After you got Covenant as settlement, first thing first we need to mark all items and containers as owned by player.

To do this :

- Open console command with ~, then click on the item/ container, then type setownership, do this for every Items and containers.

2. For the turrets, we can only replace them.

To do this :

- Open console command with ~, then click on the turret, then type disable, do this for every turrets.

- Make your own turrets any kind, in their place.

3. For the locked doors, you need to give keys to the settler that will use/ live in the house

To do this :

- Open Console
- Click on your permanent Covenant settler candidate or your companion
- type additem 890C3 1
- type additem 890C2 1
- type additem E928D 1
- done.
When they want to use any furniture or bed in one of the house they can enter on their own now even if the doors locked, they open the locked doors on their own.
I think that make Covenant very usable as one of the best settlement,
I hope this help. Good luck.

I just killed everyone and stole everything.... haven't had any problems with the doors, if I really have to I think I can delete them. the only problem I have is that I cannot build high up. and any turrets I've placed kill the other ones that were there at the beginning of the quest.

its whatever, my main settlements can still be better but covenant is a good starting settlement.

On consoles there is also a way:

I replaced many of the items in Covenant.

i.e. scrap Telephone, replace it with a Telephone from elsewhere.

This left usable storage and decor that were mine, and I stole nothing.

I was limited to where I could sleep, but all the owned beds 'count'.

I built a roof (awning) at the front of Covenant from the top of the wall all along the front
so that I could place turrets at the base of the wall.

This prevents line of sight as the turrets you place and the turrets that exist are hostile to each other.

As enemies seem to spawn at the front of the settlement, this creates a kill zone of 6+ turrets.

As I also used Covenant as my main gang base, the raiders were jelly in moments.

If I have any concerns it is the areas I can't fully dismantle, and with full crafting stations and stores it is just a little too cramped.

The Brahmin trains keep trying to squeeze through impossible gaps.

I didn't use any console commands. I left the old turrets where they were, and built new turrets inside the houses where they wouldn't see the old turrets and, thus, wouldn't shoot at them. The old turrets would still shoot at your enemies so I didn't want to lose their defensive help. So I built 4 new turrets inside the houses to get 20 defense to keep settlers happy. Regarding the bed situation, I went into workshop mode and simply "assigned" a settler to a bed, and it would turn into a "green" safe bed. My settlers never had a problem opening the locked doors (they sleep in the beds inside), and I didn't give them the keys either; maybe because I had already unlocked them.

But still, Covenant is too small in area, so I don't foresee doing much building there. It is a great location, being at the center of the map, and a potential "hub" for your supply network. Wish it were as big as Sanctuary. Sanctuary is nice and large, but it is at the outskirt of the map and not as ideal a location.

I'm basically using covenant as the base for my followers, my main settlement is still Sanctuary (though I might eventually make it the boat house).

I just replaced what I could, unlocked the doors, and placed turrets on top of the platforms where the now destroyed turrets sat. It's not a bad space all things considered. I do regret losing the vendor though.
