Map of Cyrodiil

Hi to all!
I'm currently working on a map of Cyrodiil, I'm trying to create it in a different style of the original map, but the way I'm working is really really time expensive!

So I was wondering what do you thiunk of the style I'm using, because I didn't wish to work 100+ hrs on it and notice that nodoby like it! :facepalm:

I post a little screenshot of the Imperial City, note that I haven't already drawn the border, the sea, etc.. for now only the structure of the city.

Suggestions and critics really welcomed!

what are you using to make it? atm its looking a bit ms paint-ish. if your using PS i recommend making the parchment a layer (instead of background) with some kind of blending (multiply might work nice) over the layer with the drawings. this will make it look like the picture is actually drawn on the paper with a pen instead of a computer. the idea is a good one i think, good luck with it.

Yes, I'm using Photoshop!
Yes I'll keep in mind your suggestion! I'll surely apply more other effects, at the moment I made only the layout and general look of the city, the parchment behind was put on only to "emphatize" the city, but I'm working on it.
I think that before the evening I'll post other screenshot of the progress.

Its definitely nifty. I'd second what's already been mentioned about the background, it just looks awkward against the city (of course, maybe parchment isn't even the ideal backdrop).

Not that I'm a map critic, but with this alone there's not really much to suggest or advise in any depth - so I'll look forward to the updates...

Nice, and pretty; and I'm glad you decided to add the gate that leads to the Waterfront. I can definitely see how it would be time consuming, and it seems that if you continue in the current fashion that the entire backdrop will consist of the countryside (or perhaps it would be better to state, there will be no backdrop because it will be countryside)...

Since it seems you're more or less going off of in-game scale and appearance, there really isn't much to critique unless you happen to just screw something up (which since its just the IC so far that'd sorta be hard to do)...

Very interesting, would DL it if you release it when ur done, try it out at least, very interesting idea, hope u get it out good, cuz it could be a very cool map, hope you do well^^

Looks fine -

Assume you're attempting to make a decorative map rather than a practical map? As the scale and style does not appear to lend itself to hundreds of locations? So make sure you really do concentrate on the decorative aspects.

Decorative detail can be quite intricate and entertaining.

One approach (if you have personal access to a colour printer) might be to try several computer-generated versions and then print them in full colour, then work on the prints with a fine pen, inks, paints of different kinds, then scan them into your computer and PS and try more effecfts on them ...

Keep workin on it.

From this start, you could draw successively farther locations smaller, and get something along the lines of a map of New York I once saw, where the city itself was huge, with farther away locations progressively smaller. I wish I remembered what it was called, since I have no clue where to begin searching for it. Even the restaurant I saw it in is no longer at its old location.

Thank you all for your suggestions! unfortunately this days work and RL things keep me away from the map, but the incoming weeks I hope I will finish the bruma/chorrol part of the map.

Yes I saw in NY the "progressive scaled" map of Manhattan (during my honeymoon.. :) ) and I nearly bought it! Nut it must be really difficult to transpose, the main problem is to create a perspective view of Cyrodiil, that is really nasty due to the irregular coastline (unofrtunately I'm not an artist as you can see)
And yes, I started to make a practical map but... after 3 hrs I'll understand that make a practical map in this style is very difficult... so I gone for a decorative one!

The strange things that I thought is that with a big community of Oblivion, nobody make a new map of Cyrodiil, and I hope to finish it and to make it decent because as I already said I'm really far to be an artist (I'm a developer)

sorry for the mispelling, "I'm really far FROM be an artist" if this is the correct term (sorry form my bad english) what I meant is that I'm really not an artist or a sort of graphic guru, an angry cow flying in a Learjet with dozen of turbulence draw better than me... :)
