Fallout 4 enemy inventory?

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 5:20 pm

I didn't like how simple the inventory looks when accessing enemy loot. Also how you take the items from enemys reminds of Bioshock.

In Bioshock it was similar.

Anyways it's not a big deal but .. don't you think they could have done a better job desiging the menus, inventory etc?

OK, let's see your designs.

Don't forget that's just quick-loot. If you want to see more detailed items, as well as pause the game while looting, hit R (or whatever the console default is).

You don't have to be able to do stuf to comment on them. If that was true, most cars would all be perfect, because, lets see you build one....It is not a constructive reply either.

On-Topic:

Well, I don't mind how the inventory on enemy corpses works, and the quickloot option is a neat feature in my view.

As for the menus, well, they are not optimal by any means. Especially what I've seen of the construction menu (haven't used it much) Never seen a game, other than FO4, that makes you use WASD, arrow keys and enter in the same menu. That's beyond me, how they could design it that way. It is not very intuitive, nor practical. I have faith tho, that either Bethesda or mods will remedy this tho.

The quickloot menu is amazing. The Bioshock comparison is apt, but characters and containers don't lose out on any of the items you'd expect to find inside because of it. You can just go through them with a lot less fuss... and when a game has as much looting as a Bethesda game, I'm very grateful for that.

How else could they have designed it, though? I don't have too much trouble with it, although it's definitely not a fast-paced control scheme for a fast-paced system. (and the only time I can think of when I actually used the Enter key was in the facegen menu, or picking a name, otherwise E has always worked just fine for me)

That's a non-argument if ever I've seen one...

Edit: to clarify, I like the menus and the quick looting stuff. But if you wanna argue, come up with something better and not just 'durr let's see you do better.'

You can complain about things you don't like. I don't like the Mona Lisa, could I paint a better picture? Not in a million years.

Well, I am not designer. But using WASD and arrow keys, while holding your mouse. One of the control sets you will have to let go off. For example, if righthanded and then probably using WASD, you will have to let go of the mouse unless you want an awkward position with left hand crossing your keyboard to use the arrow keys. It doesn't help either, that the mouse is not very precise in menus, because of the mouse acceleration. Switching off mouse acc. doesn't remove it from menu navigation, only outside of menus.

Ya, I hated it too at first, but once I broke my Skyrim/Fo3 habits, it's insanely better. The quick loot option works (and works fast) for about 70% of the time while the rest of the time I can just open up the transfer screen. It's very fluid and fast once you get used to it.

In all of my settlement building, I'm pretty okay with switching between mouse and arrow keys. The game doesn't seem to ask you to use both at the same time; pick what you want to build with the arrow keys, position it with the mouse. Like I said, it's not very fast-paced but then neither is settlement building anyway.

Oh, for quick-loot: Once I learned that you can use the scroll-wheel to navigate the quickloot menu, I don't think I've ever accessed the dedicated container menu unless I wanted to put something in the container.

You're absolutely right, that was not an argument. If someone says "X is a bad way to do this" then presumably they have some alternative in mind.

I really like it. Cursor over body, pick what I want and walk away. So much quicker.

This, system is pretty genial, only thing I miss is weight an price on item.

now the sad part is that they could easy have put Fallout 3/ Skyrim dialogue menu into that popup and combined the rich dialogues with the real time dialogues in Fallout 4.

I really like the new quick-loot system. If I'm just grabbing their ammo, it's very quick and easy. If I see any items that warrant a closer look, I can easily go into the Transfer menu (which works exactly like the Fallout 3 loot menu) and examine the item in question. Going through a room full of boxes, lockers and desks is so much more fluid now.

This system is a good example of improving the game through streamlining. Something we spend a lot of time doing works better, and we haven't lost any the ability to do anything we could do under the old system.

Looting system looks a lot like what they used when Fallout 3 came out to me.
Aside from the "grab one item at a time new addition.

I think the new system is pretty good. One thing I really like is the fact that I can spam the loot button to pick up things that are on top of a container (such as a desk) without opening an empty container. In previous installments, if there was a bunch of stuff on a desk you wanted, you had to carefully position the cross hair to activate the items; if you spammed the loot button, you'd just open the container, and possibly start dumping things into it, instead of collecting the items on top of it.

It's stupid, crazy and worthless... now that we can't assign our own keys. Thanks to this crappy 'quickloot' I get stuck on EVERYTHING all the time, just because I use 'E' as strafe right. Thanks a lot, Beth!

They've fixed that if you opt-in to the beta patch. The 'Quickloot' function will be mapped to your 'Activate' key instead of hard-coded to 'E' like it should have been from the beginning. Also, the 'Transfer' function will map to your 'Reload' key instead of being locked to 'R'.

If you're fond of using the numpad hotkeys however, you might be disappointed with the beta patch changes.

It took my a while to get used to (I kept trying to exit out of it!) but I definitely think it works for the most part.
