[3D Model & Animations] Why the hunting rifle is a lefty

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 7:54 pm

It's silly to see a right-hander using a lefty rifle with the bullet case punching his face every time he use it. Why BGS DEVs has decided to use this weird design (i don't talk about the ugly design of some guns like the assault rifle)?

Could you, in the incoming patch, swap the side of the bolt handle?

Actually I'm worried about the capability to add new weapons with mods because using custom animations in your engine is difficult, and all the firearms in the game use a left charging handle animation and it's not that common...

I assume its left because they need a universal reload animation that works whether the rifle has a full or saw off stock, and one based on holding the gun in the right hand is the most straightforward one to do.

I don't see what is your point. What the size of the stock has to do with the side of the bolt handle? I think it's just a game design, not motivated by a lazy reason about the assets from the game. Many games had this weird design (old versions of CS for example) for an unknown reason, at least for me...

Because if your firearm is configured as a pistol, you're holding it in your right hand and can't (easily) operate a right-handed bolt. Not that that makes the left-handed bolt any less jarring, but there is a logical reason for it.

They did all the actions on the left side so they could be seen in first person. In the past game they had all the reload animation on the right side which could barely be seen when in fpv. Now you can see the actions operate.

Because (as I grasp it) part of the motion of cycling a right side bolt includes resting the but of the rifle against your body, but obviously if there is no stock, ya cant do that, so instead of either having a right side bolt animation that looks towards if the gun has no stock, or waste time making two reload animations, they opted for a left sided bolt so they could have one, universal bolt cycling animation.

That's no problem.

I understand you but, for me, even with the shorter version of the gun, there is enough space to hold it with the left hand and operate the bolt handle with the right hand, you don't have to support this type of gun with your shoulder to do so. So it's a bad choice to me anyway.

It's an ugly and unrealistic design choice for existing IRL firearms and you don't have to do that if you want to see it, you just have to do an another reload animation, search this on youtube: [CS:S] HyperMetal's AK47 Animations

I have high hopes in modders like Millenia to make better weapons than vanilla ones.
