Do you wear apparel for style or substance?

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 4:54 pm

Only style!

Cait's clothes, leather legs and chest (the little one that looks like a Cartridge belt) with the mod that make them black and increase inventory. No arms no helm. My silenced 10mm and my .44 magnum. Armor is useless when you can toy with your ennemies, thank to the 2 last charisma perk :)

Style, un-modded Courser Uniform & Black-rim glasses at level 49.

Style now. Courser Armor with a Battered Fedora and some Black Rim glasses... Matrix-esque. Though MK 5 Ballistic Weave on both, so my Defense is pretty nice as well.

I think the mod Armorsmith Extended fixes this and lets you upgrade every armor if it makes sense. Apart from also making it more logical in what you can wear, for example you can now wear both a gasmask and a helmet at the same time, or glasses, scarf around the mouth and a hat etc, and not just one or the other etc.

Personally I try to go with what looks good and fits the character, but also thinking about protection. For me it makes sense that my character would wear a combat helmet instead of a cap when running around in an environment where bullets are flying. To just go for style in that area would just be kind of silly and unrealistic for any character imo. Maybe when they have 100 kills under their belt and starts to feel really cocky though.. :P

Definitely substance over style for me. Considering I mostly play in first person view I'm never really seeing what I look like so it doesn't matter. It's only during conversations with NPC's that I see what I look like which sometimes brings a giggle.

I try to have both as much as possible, though that is easy for me as I am rather fond of power armor. I wear power armor most of the time, but for me this is not new to Fallout 4. Though I do prefer to wear the various Brotherhood T-60's instead of X-01, as far as style is concerned. Under the power armor I typically wear either the BoS Uniform and BoS Hood (which looks like what the power armored soldier in the intro is wearing under his armor), Mechanic Jumpsuit, Army Fatigues, or my Vault 111 Jumpsuit. If deprived of power armor I often wear leather or combat armor over the same, minus the Mechanic Jumpsuit of course. When walking around towns I often switch to whichever article of pre-war clothing I desire to wear (especially the Sweater Vest and Slacks),Patrolman Sunglasses, and one of varying hats.

A little of both. I spend most of my time in first person mode but I do like to try on all of the outfits I find. My character always carries Agatha's dress to wear when shopping. The Silver Shroud's costume was love at first sight and she wore it for several levels. Currently, My gal is back in the vault suit with leather armor and militia hat again. Even though Power Armor is impressive looking, can't say as I really care for wearing it. :)

In games, I'm too pragmatic to choose style over substance. And playing in 1st person, I really don't care how I look :)

Function. When I'm out there fighting for my life, I go with the best modded-up armour I have.

Schmoozing around town, I like to chill out in my natty striped suit, fashionable glasses and formal hat. That's style & function, +4 CH for the ladies...

PS: and like some others, I normally play in 1st person, so it doesn't much matter how I look.

It is a bit of a pain, though, to keep swapping whenever I need to sweet-talk someone or save a few caps with a trader.

Bit of both style and substance as well. I don't like walking around looking like a tin-can just have good defence.

Heh, I've always played Beth games in 1st person, but 2/3rds or more of the mods I download are still appearance mods (hair, eyes, skin, bodies, fancy clothes/armor, etc). Easy enough to go into 3rd to take screenshots and know my character looks cool.

function so far.
Lvl 26 and I have the Destroyer helm, and a legendary on each limb. Two metal, one combat, and one synth, with combat armor chest. Put that with the ugly minuteman outfit and wraparound goggles.

Show your character thread? No thanks. :(

Style. Stats are always second to me. Vivian Black is a medic/sciencey type so with stimpaks and drugs it doesn't even matter.

Both, I don't like writing the vault suit because it is bright blue yet I like having high damage resistant armor.

I play 1st person so my character looks like a goon, but can take a hit.

Wish it was both aka moddable armor/outfits/clothes.
For now, mostly substance except for hat. Wearing battered fedora because it doesn't look bad and the +1 luck, with road leathers and combat/leather armor layered on. Gave in to the vault jumpsuit looking meh, so switched.

Second guy using drifter outfit and militia hat, but starting to die way to easily. -sigh- Come on Bethesda, we both know you can fix this with an update.

Substance. But I always play a sneaky character and when the sneak skill gets decent enough my people would then wear regular, nice looking, clothes. In Oblivion my Khajiit characters would even hunt nvde as their ancestors did once they got good enough. In Fallout 4 my girl is about ready to take off her armour and wear a nice dress instead. So, a little bit of one and a lot of the other.

Right now I wear the armor that protects me with what perks work best for me. I am working on a character build that will allow me to wear stuff for style. I am a fan of the plaid shirt and slacks. +2 charisma ftw lol.

As for all my other outfits, I dress up all my settlers with them. Marcy (or whatever her name is) might act all grumpy and whatnot, but she looks good doing it in her red sequined dress.

Substance over style for me.

I currently wear full light combat armor which increases my AP. I switch to summer shorts and the militia hat when I trade due to their charisma bonuses. However, many times I forget to put on my combat helmet and chest plate.
