Anyone else prefer to be alone? no companions

Post » Sat Dec 12, 2015 3:14 am

I haven't used all of them yet but companions can be a severe headache. Piper has been the least annoying so far, at least with her comments she seems to understand why I'm a junk collector. I won't ever travel with Strong because to me his kind are shoot on sight.

Sneaking can be hard. I can't tell you how many times I've shot Piper in the back of the head because she sneaks right between me and my target just as I'm firing.

Every time I go near him in Sanctuary, he won't stop yapping. Yes Strong, I know humans look funny to you.

I like Dogmeat as it's practically alone (no repetitive lines or "disliking" my actions), he can carry stuff, can't shoot or attack any enemies not immediately threatening me and grants me the lone wanderer perk. I love him so much that I'm considering spending points upgrading his skills.

normally i prefer alone, in 3/NV i didnt use companions at all (in NV i had boone on a couple of my 1000000 playthroughs just cause i liked him)

but in 4 i find i have to purely because all the junk is useful and the insane weapon weights and i need their storage space.

i like having piper around though she is amusing and cute

problem is (well in my game) they just keep either teleporting or running off somewhere then run back to me, this cause all sorts of issues in the dungeons as say i can be on level one sneaking around and then all of a sudden i here a big gunfight happening which is up on level 3 and its my companion who has just teleported/run up there for some reason then tried to come back down to me. is very frustrating as im stealth build and i cant play that way most of the time due to companion setting off whole area stupidly like that.

You mean in addition to the 100 carryweight you get from the lone wolf perks? I suppose if you're on the PC you can use the console commands. Not sure if you can access the console on consoles.

I play Bethesda games alone. Two reasons : I usually play the stealthy way and I like climbing stuff and finding the odd passage. Companion AI and pathfinding usually goes to hell when I do either. I can't stand jumping frome one building to the next to see my companion going back to street level, walking to the next building, and climbing up the stairs to reach me, alerting every enemy there.

The only companion I really considered was dogmeat. But since he can die in FO3 he stayed at home the whole game. I tried to take the dog along with me in FONV but he disapeared from my game (sarcasm/FONV was so much better/sarcasm). Now I can finally take him alongside me and pretend his dumb AI is actually dog roleplay.

Playing the game as a lone wanderer as I used to will without a doubt be a liberating experience.

One thing I'm looking forward to after the Creation Kit is released is multiple companions mod. No, I don't prefer to be alone. I prefer more than one companions with me. I really enjoyed wandering the Mojave wasteland with Cass and Willow. In Skyrim, I usually have 2 or 3 custom voiced companions (they are situations/locations/quests aware) so I'm looking forward to that type of mods in FO4.

Piper still surprises me with her comments. BGS did a much better job this time.

I like Nick.

The main reason I run around with a companion is for the extra carrying capacity. I tend to be a packrat.

Honestly, as much as they sometime bug me it's the first game where I can tolerate companions at all, and so I find myself using them more. Couldn't stand companions in Skyrim.

they do get annoying at times, plus the navigation paths for them to get in the elevators is trashed at best. i do like traveling alone most of the time since i made it to 115 on very hard, but they stuff they say is hilarious. plus, i do enjoy having piper and curie around :) they are so freaking cute! other than that, the others are meh.

I stopped taking companions after awhile with my high-stealth character, but my current melee / heavy character is so unstealthy that a companion makes little difference. I do like having them along, mostly, but I think after I've explored most of their quests I'll be done with them. The next character I make will max-out Lone Wanderer and Attack Dog, and have Dogmeat as his only companion.

If you dont want a companion who talks a lot get Maccready. I used him for over 10 hours and he barely ever spoke a word which was pretty true to his mercenary background. He's also really good in gunfights.

I'm alone, but I plan on getting a companion on my next play through. I miss Fawkes. Best companion that I ever had in any Bethesda game.

I can't stand companions, they are a massive handicap and make the game unnecessarily far more difficult. There are far too many missions where a companion of some sort is forced upon you too. If you want to carry more you can take the Lone Wanderer and Strong Back perks for an extra 150 lbs. If that's not enough you can always use console commands to increase your "carryweight".

One thing I'm really hoping for once the modding gets going: ED-E. I miss that crazy little bucket of bolts.

You ain't kidding. That was my favorite companion. I got trolled by the game when it sent an eyebot to check me out at one of my settlements. I was like "Yes!", but it just zipped off after scanning me

Companion AI is horrid. My next playthrough as a stealth character will be solo for the most part.
