Do long term abilities stay in effect when you switch class?

Post » Sat Jun 19, 2010 10:25 am

I was wondering if long term abilities like turrets, mines, or other things like fade away after you switch classes at a control site, or if they remain in play for their full time?

I really doubt they stay, or else everyone would go engineer, drop a turret, then switch class, and you would have to force your way past 8 turrets to get anywhere.

Yes, most likely they will disappear - they did in previous games, and it would be unbalanced if they stayed. Other games do this as well (like TF2.) Speaking of turrets specifically, An engineer can only place 1 turret at a time. Any turret placed after that, will replace the last one.

Would be amusing seeing an engi or two standing behind a wall of 8 turrets though, frantically running back and forth trying to repair them all.

Yea having turrets stay would be unbalanced. But Imo I think the turret should stay but be deactivated (Permanent-ish) until you switch back to engineer and it reactivates. Then it disappears/explodes once you put down a new turret.

I just think that having it stay but be deactivated wouldn't affect the balance, But would add another element of strategy/tactics.

How would it add strategy/tactics, by having a deactivated turret on the field, that can just be replaced by a new one anyway?

I think he means that if you switch to something else like a medic the turret should just power down. But when you switch back to engineer again the turret will power up and be able to shoot.

I'd like to see it be able to be destroyed when it's power downed though.

Because when you switch back it turns on. Think about it, if there is a good place for a turret but it's hard to get too once the enemies arrive.
Go there place it, come back change to something you need right now and once the enemies start attacking from that direction you can switch back and have it activate without needing to fight through enemies to place it.
It is something that an engineer can do anyway if they stay an engineer. This would just allow them (give them a choice) to be more flexible when the current situation needs a different class.

Yea if it couldn't be destroyed while powered down, then it would affect balance.

I hope it gets destroyed when switching class. You can do other usefull things as engineer while your turret is up.

Why don't they just throw wrenches at them so they can repair themseves?

They should just blow up when you switch from engineer.

That would be awesome. I can already imagine it:

Step 1: Wraith starts hacking my turret.
Step 2: I change class.
Step 3: Kaboom.
Step 4: Profit.

Fixed that and let me rephase it break down it doesn't turn into a bomb. Also why would I be standing next to it?

Yea, I know that it probably blows up without doing damage. I was just using my awesome and great fantasy xD
You would stand next to it, to place the hacking device.
