Dialog system clunkybuggy?

Its more of a minor inconvenience but the dialog system seems kind of clunky when you are trying to get into a conversation.

You walk up to someone and click to activate them and then nothing happens or they walk away or they say something then walk away. Then I try to keep up with them only to have the dialog suddenly pop up after a few secs, but because I am trying to move toward them I inadvertently select the up arrow (or W for righties) dialog option. I have to re-load from saves a number of times because of this.

There's also a problem where people sort of "grab" you into a conversation just walking by them. Every time I go near Hancock for example, while he is not following and without activating him or anything, the game forces me into his final idiolized conversation.

Anyone else notice this or got a workaround?

This dialog system is probably the single worst system in Fallout 4. As much as I love this game, trying to start conversations will make you want to pull your hair out. I have experienced many of the same problems, needing to repeatedly press the E key to get people to actually start a conversation, and other times where people will randomly pull me into conversations. And don't get me started with companions, where if you are not the precise distance away it switches to a different mode where you order them around instead of trade. I honestly don't know how it made it through playtesting. And it is a shame to, as the combat in this game is amazing, but you will constantly be fighting this system and the inventory between combat and exploration, which does tend to drag the game down some.
