So, many people point toward Argonia as the next possible location. This has some pros and cons:
PROS
- Black Marsh/Argonia has seceded from the Empire, right? So, what if the new Emperor gets the army to invade Black Marsh, so they can enslave its people and therefore have a province's worth of stealthy reptillians skilled in guerilla warfare? This could create a lot of interesting story for the An-Xileel, a powerful military faction in Black Marsh, the Shadowscales, an Argonian variation of the Dark Brotherhood, and maybe even the Dark Elves?
- The Argonians are arguably the most mysterious people in The Elder Scrolls. There's a large canvas for Bethesda's lore-writers.
- As con 3 points out, there is little room to make a hero prophecy, but could this allow for more humble begginings, a character with no dragon soul or the inherited power of an ancient Dark Elf hero, with just your magic, strength, stamina and/or skill with a bow to rise to the top and save your people?
CONS
- Low racial diversity, especially in inner Black Marsh (which I'll get into next), could put some people off.
- Inner Black Marsh is full of pestilence, gases, insects and other foul things that only the Argonians have evolved to survive, and other foreign races have not. The only way to fix this is to remove all the in-lore obstacles keeping non-Argonians out of Inner Black Marsh, but that could upset a lot of die-hard lore fans.
- There is little room here to come up with a famous "prophecy hero", like the Dragonborn or Nerevarine, for the people of Argonian. A hist-blessed kind of guy wouldn't make much sense for non-Argonians. However, as said above, there is a lot of mystery to these people.
So there's Black Marsh, but what do you guys think? What a Mane to save Elsweyr from the Thalmor's deceit, or even a High Elf to stike at the Thalmor from the Summerset Isles themselves, or maybe even aid them? I think it's clear that the failure of the White-Gold Concordat and a war with the Aldmeri Dominion is inevitable.
