SENNHEISER HD 598 WORTH IT?

Post » Mon Dec 14, 2015 11:53 am

I have seen some HD 598's on sale at $120. Should I buy them quickly?
I have looked at some reviews and seen that everybody loves them, but
I'm still not sure yet.

Yes, an excellent pair of headphones. Great all rounders. They're not for outdoors. Best used with an amplifier but an PC would suffice just fine. They are a bit weak on the bass but you can tweak your equalizer. Not great with phones though.

Excellent crisp and clear sound. If you're used to heavy bass you might find them strange at first, but see them through for a week or so and then go back to you're old pair and you'll see the difference. They are best with acoustic music but are epic with other types too. A bit big, but they are lighter than they look and they are comfortable. Definitely buy them. They are better than the urbanites by miles (as far as I remember you bought a pair). Worth every penny.

I'm actually wearing my 598s as I'm typing this. The worst part of these headphones (and all others) is that you have to break them in for the first week so you can get the best possible sound quality.

In your average tech shop nothing comes even close to the 598, you'll only find a true rival in a proper hi-fi specialist shop.

That's it, I picked them up, and I'm impressed. They costed a bit much but they'll
probably be worth it considering that I'll be keeping them for a decade or so. There are a few things I noticed in comparison to the urbanite XL :

1. They are loads more comfortable, manly due to the fact that the pressure points are on a larger area on one's head. The earpads are a bit stiffer, but this doesn't bother me because it means that they move less when I move my head around.

2. The sound is much better, much more balanced. Of course, they are open backed, but I actually love this because I can hear my suroundings inside the house and it produces a cleaner sound than the urbanite XL.

3. Yes, they are considerably bigger in size than urbanite XL but this doesn't matter because I won't take them outside( I've got the urbanites for that)
and they somehow grip better in my hands when I take them on and off.

As you said they will take about a week to break in( maybe in my case two)
but that doesn't matter because I'm not very impatient.

Also on another note I was aiming this thread at you the-termin8tor because I did see in other threads you talked about the HD 598's and you seem to be passionate about audio hardware.

Glad you like them. The open back makes a difference. If you play something through them and then cover the back of each ear cup with your hands you'll hear the difference in sound.

I can't live without my music, nor with bad sound quality. I value my audio more than my visuals. It's a good thing I'm still around. I'll PM you my e-mail in case you have any questions or if you can't reach me here.
