Co Op Not Multiplayer

Post » Mon Dec 14, 2015 2:56 pm

Playing this game isn't mandatory either. If you don't like single player games, and are so hell bent on playing multiplayer games, then why in the hell did you buy this one?

Multiplayer has been asked for since Morrowind, perhaps earlier, but I didn't have internet when Daggerfall was released. How many gamesas releases have come out since that game? Multiplayer has been asked for for every single one of them.

This all ignores the fact that the game's engine would have to be rewritten from scratch to support this. The game is built with one avatar running around interacting with things, hell, cells shut down when the avatar leaves. You want to add multiple avatars, with the need to constantly update the clients of every avatar with the actions of every other avatar? The engine would literally crap itself.

This is known, but with every release of a Fallout or Elder Scrolls game, the whining for something the game isn't, or was ever meant to be never ceases.

Tell you what. I'll get behind you and petition that they dump ludicrous amounts of time rewriting the game for multiplayer "so you can have an option".

I'll do it righ after you petition for my desire to play the game as a text adeventure with no graphics.

Say goodbye to VATS, then. Can't do bullet time with more than one player.

The original statement was that mods and multiplayer are mutually exclusive. I was just pointing out that both-at-once has been done successfully in at least one other game, and that the tools most modders are already using (Wrye Bash and NMM/MO) could allow a similar system to work in a Bethesda game.

Mind you, I personally don't believe multiplayer in a Bethesda game is a good idea, but "it's impossible" and "it'd destroy the game" aren't good arguments against it.

Even when it's "optional", designing the game world, engine, and game mechanics to support multi-player will have an effect on how a game turns out. Plus, it takes a good chunk of dev time & resources. So putting MP into a game would definitely affect the SP experience. And beyond that, MP is being shoved into more and more games these days - stop trying to ruin what few SP games still exist.

I don't typically enjoy co-op. It's almost always terrible. The only game that works pretty well with co-op is borderlands, and the reason being? It was built from the ground up with co-op in mind. I don't want, or need more multiplayer games... seems every game nowadays "needs" multiplayer of some kind. There is a multitude of games that can be played with friends, instead of changing fallout to fit your wants, why not find a game that already does?

Its a sensitive subject round here. Most of us have been Bethesda fans for over a decade ( been playing their games since TES: Arena in the 90s myself) and every new release this subject comes up. Be it fallout or TES. Bethesda is one of the few developers that still focus on single player RPGs. Everything now is multiplayer and personally I get tired of it. I agree a Beth game could be fun with co op if done right. It needs to be a separate entity from the regular single player series though. The day they put co op into a regular fallout or TES game is the day a lot of people would probably give up on them.

That's what I used to think until MGSV: Wait Wall Extortion. Ever played that game? It's a single player game with an online connection and F2P wait walls. A $60 single player game with toll booths on the crap you already paid for, how is that for a rip off? #FuKonami
