Do I miss out on something if I fight the Institute ?

Post » Tue Dec 15, 2015 2:53 am

Spoilers ahead.

Hi.

I'm now doing that mission where I help synths escape from the Institute. What do I want to know before I become an enemy of the Institute: is there any cool stuff the Institute can give me ? Armor, weapons, cool missions, something I cannot get from other places ?

I've just spoke to the 4 leaders coordinating the sections of the Institute and that's all. I'm rushing with the main mission cause I'm impatient to see how this ends.

Nope. The only unique item that the institute gives you are grenades that will summon a gen 1 synth to the location you throw it. The Minutemen get artillery, the railroad get ballistic weave, and the Brotherhood give you vertibird support. So, with that said, compared to the other faction benefits, the institute do not really give anything. Also, unless there is something i'm missing, there is no way to replenish your synth summoning grenades, like there is with the BOS or minutemen special grenades.

Showers, clean beds, not being at the top of the Food Chain.

Not during the main story. During the main story, you can purchase vertibird markers after becoming a knight, and flares and artillery appear in your workshop over time. Synth grenades only appear after all main quests are done, and you are finally the director. So, you do not get to enjoy them as much as you get to enjoy vertibirds and artillery.

Summoning a vertibird to circle an enemy and then immediately crash on top of you has to be almost as good as the artillery I have never being in range to actually use.

You can buy really good synth armor if you help the institute but you can buy the Mk. 2 and 3 if you infiltrate them with the railroad

nothing now. There is an x-01 paint job for finishing with them, which some say is the best looking one but thats total end. You can get synth grenades before the end but gen 1's are pretty weak, just as bad as minutemen and only come 1 at a time. It becomes such a bother right there trying to figure out how much you can do for each. At that point I just killed everyone.

What ? Do they use synths as six toys now ? No wonder they want to escape the institute.

I heard something about a teleporter somewhere as an alternative to the vertibird fast travel?

If you need to put "spoilers ahead" in the OP then I dare say it belongs in the spoilers section. While we have been pretty laid back about that up until now, it's high time to start putting spoilers in the section provided for them. Lot's of folks haven't played this yet, a ton of folks will be getting it for Christmas and holidays so...please don't post spoilers in the general section.

I've moved it for you.

well it's kind of implied but not outright said. the institute is working on "domestic synths" for placement within households and to integrate with families. One of these such synths you can actually flirt with, nothing comes of it, but you can. She was basically replacing one of the scientist's wives as well as helping to raise his kid.
