What is trash can Carla's deal?

Post » Tue Dec 15, 2015 2:21 pm

Who is she? She seems to come into my settlement and instantly assume I'm going to rob her. Did I? Sure but only because I got sick of her paranoia.

She continued to spew her insolent filth so I finally killed her. I expected my settlement to turn on me like when I killed the annoying Asian guy but to my surprise they didn't. They freaked out and drew their weapons like they were ready for a fight and one person hit the alarm. Then a lady said "I guess that's wasteland justice" and they went on their business.

So who is this annoying lady? She isn't like the other caravans and seems pretty much uesless. Why can't I kill other settlers like her?

She thinks you're going to rob her? I've never encountered that reaction at all. Of course, I play a "nice" character and all I did was flirt with her. I think she's nice.

Useless? Maybe you didn't realize it, but Trashcan Carla is a trader, not one of your settlers. She goes around to your different settlements and you can buy from her or sell her your unneeded inventory. She's one of the more valuable traders in the game because of the fact that you don't have to go to her. She comes to you. She sells shipments of oil, which is very useful. Oil is one of the harder to find building components. There have been plenty of times that I've been working on weapon mods at Sanctuary and ended up discovering that I'd run out of oil. A lot of the time I can just turn around, go to Trashcan Carla, buy a shipment of oil, and get right back to modding my weapons. This is very convenient.

Walk up to her body and look at her, hold down the E key, or whatever the 'select' button is if you're on console, and you'll pick up her body. Then you can drag it off to the side. You can also do this with most of the movable items in the world. A lot of people haven't figured this out yet, and it's quite useful.

She acts this way if you Threatened her on first encounter, usually on the way to Diamond City.

Not sure if your threat has to be successful (where she pays you for your extortion) or not--the video I saw, she paid up.

So why are you threatening a trader? From the first time you talk to her it's pretty obvious she's a trader, as if the hugely packed brahmin wasn't enough of a clue.

Traders are far to valuable to me to be threatening, robbing or killing. Carla sells oil and crystal and concrete, which are far too valuable to me to ever do anything to her.

Besides, I like her. I call her Aunt Carla. She reminds me of one of my best friends.

To be fair, you can still trade with her, its just a one time way to earn a little exp and some caps.

I personally prefer the sarcastic response the first time I meet her, as she gives a discount if ya do.

It's not always effective. The dead human on the way from Sanctuary to Red Rock, just past the bridge, you did kill him, right, can be moved away but always ends up right where he was. The dog is apparently too heavy to move.

Is this one of those forums where we only read the first 10 words?!?

If so, I might stop at 2 posts here...

I clearly indicated that I watched this in a video....

I cannot account for why the idiot thought it a good idea to threaten a trader.

Have a nice day now.

OK, OK, keep your shirt on. The first time I spoke she asked if I was going to kill her or ask where Diamond City is. If you use the sarcastic response on the first interaction, she like that and gives you a discount. I guess she is just being sarcastic. to you. Since you killed her, you won't have someone in Sanctuary to trade other than vendor that you create. Sanctuary is the first place I go to when I can't carry any more things.

I'm surprised no one pointed this out. There's a fairly big spoiler about Trash Can Carla. It's absolutely a spoiler (although not related to the main quest story). You have been warned.

Spoiler
Carla is an Institute spy.

Trashcan Carla is cool in my book (and not just because she's a convenient trader): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EshsYjfyAz4

And my response is and always will be - "So?". As far as I'm concerned, all my settlers can be replaced.
