Fallout Crashing after Launching

Post » Wed Dec 16, 2015 2:48 am

EDIT: I got Fallout working by downloading dxcpl and following the instructions on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAEEYTK9Sec. Yay!

After trying every solution I could find and not getting a reply from Bethesda support after a couple of days of waiting, I was wondering if anyone here would like to help me with my software issues. The event logs register the crash of Fallout 4 on my laptop as an APPCRASH with exception code 0xc0000005. From what I can tell, this means it's probably a software or graphics issue. But my graphics exceeds minimum system requirements for Fallout 4, so I'm thinking it's a software thing, but I cannot, for the life of me, seem to find the conflicting program.

Here's my specs.

Ur notebook has a GT 525m? Check the 'sD3DDevice=' of your ?Faloout4Prefs.ini, probably pointing to your Intel HD graphic. Some of these switchable notebooks have problem. Check is there any graphic control panel to force use of GT 525m? If not, try disable your Intel HD graphic under device manager to force the use of GT 525m?

Disabling the Intel GPU on a optimus Laptop will not enable the dedicated GPU.

So, please - that's an useless advice.

Take a look here: http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32163/~/how-to-change-nvidia-optimus-graphics-settings

--------

Open NVIDIA Control Panel and look at Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings tab. If your game is not listed there, then NV-CP doesn't detect that it's installed, which happens sometimes with game clients such as Steam and Origin.

Simple way around this is to manually add each game you've installed, by clicking Add and then Browse to the root game folder and select the root game .EXE file. !!! (the actual game executable)

\Steam\steamapps\common

That sd3ddevice is more cosmetic(I think). The launcher detects that card since it isn't a 3D app. Perhaps this isn't a good way to determine what card it is using.

Optimus changes cards when a 3d app is detected. Go to Nvidia settings and manage 3d settings. You can use global or setup a profile for Fallout4.exe.

Set the nvidia high performance card preference.

When you remove the content in 'sD3DDevice=', the detect graphic hardware will pop up.

Yea. However you can replace the line with say another GPU line and the game will still run. It detects your hardware to select a graphic level. The iAdapter line i think is more important.

Can we confirm that the laptop has a 525m?

The Intel HD graphics (3000) doesn't support dx11 and is a possible reason for the initial crash.
