As the author says I think there is quite a lot of diversity in gaming these days. Just rooting around the Android store the last day or so, I am looking at a few titles like Rebuild 3, Valiant Hearts, This War of Mine, A Study In Steampunk and Little Inferno that have not made much of spash in terms of publicity but seem quite fresh to me

The only GOTY list thingy i ever value is the Neogaf one, as it's a vote from a community of gamers who have pretty diverse tastes. I laugh at games like The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age winning all these awards... it's like it's industry standard to give GOTY to whatever big fantasy game is released that year.
