I <3 Travis

Post » Sat Dec 19, 2015 4:18 pm

Anybody else just love Travis?

My first playthrough, I didn't do his sidequest at all and just thought he was some weirdo guy that Beth stuck in the game for kicks.

Second playthrough, I accidentally run into his sidequest, and now I just think he's the most awesome guy in the Wasteland.

Quests like these I will remember for a long time lol.

I hated him for the first hour and then I realized how genius his character is and now I love him. I am worried that doing Confidemce Man will ruin him.

If you do confidence man his personality completely changes and I feel he looses that funny nervous adorable charm.

Oh... you guys mean like you don't like or are worried about his new voice on the radio, huh?

I see. Totally valid concern, and I guess I was referring more to the quest itself.

But even if he loses that adorable charm... it's that whole transformation that is great. Like you can't separate the pre and post-confidence Traviseses. They are one and the same at the same time. So when I hear his new confident voice, I can still hear his old nervous one... at the same time.

Am I making any sense?

Nope.

He just sounds like kind of an ass to me post confidence man. The change is too sudden and drastic for me to find it believable.

I prefer him before the quest. I had one of those moments when I was a low level character and then a Rad Scorpion just popped out. I think Travis said something Oh my God right at that moment. I swear he must have spy drone somewhere.

After that point he does not make comments like that anymore.

The quest was well done.

But that's just what makes it so awesome! He's like trying too hard because it's still new to him!

That'd be my DLC IDEA OMG. TRAVIS DLC.

I hated Travis initially...but as time went on, I grew to love the little neurotic goofball.

I deliberately avoid doing his side quest. I prefer him as he is.

"So I heard soldiers...what-what do we call them now-a-days? Constabulary? ....So some soldiers from the Brotherhood of Steel found themselves in a bit of trouble at the Police Station recently. And the Vault Dweller gave them a hand...a gun....the Vault Dweller helped them. I guess they'll be on their way soon.

Heh.

Heh.

OH WE'RE GONNA DIE!

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

I just don't get it.. In the world and setting Travis seems to weak to survive. I would give anything for a cooler radio DJ. I also would like more stations.. It is the only station that plays songs, the classical and patriotic station just play instrumentals really.

The silver shroud radio station is neat though...it really captures the era.

I was worried they woud try to copy the Three Dog concept, but when I first listened to him on diamond city radio I immediatly chuckled. I agree he loses his charm after the quest, and he becomes another boring generic Radio DJ. I think most people who hate him are insecure because he reminds them about themselves. In my case I think he's one of the characters with the best personality and charisma in the game.

If anybody is worried that he'll lose his charm after confidence man well you should be because he does. he becomes boring and generic if compared to three dog and mr new vegas he's my least favorite. pre confidence man quest he's right up there with three dog. WHY DO MY THINGS KEEP MOVING?!!!

That's why Travis lives in Diamond City, the most secure settlement in the Commonwealth. Out in the Wastes, he wouldn't last a day.

I can take him or leave him. The quest involving him was cool just because it was something different. Staging a fight at the bar to boost his confidence was fun (and actually difficult because I accidentally killed the two guys the first couple times). After that quest ended though and I hooked him up with Scarlett, I haven't spared much thought for him.

For those of you who are playing on PC and preferred the pre-Confidence Man Travis on the radio, you can reset it. I don't really have a preference between the two, so I just left it as the post-Confidence Man Travis. It honestly didn't even really occur to me that the radio dialog had changed until reading a thread about it some time back on another forum.

Open the console -

ResetQuest ms14

set radiodctravisconfident to 0

I'm not sure that's it. AFAIC, he falls into the "so bad he's good" category, which in my experience a lot of people just don't get (at least, not right away). Taken at face value, he's annoying and confusing (how did he become a DJ, anyway?), and I think it takes a bit of a warp to the mind to find him funny.

...but then this is coming from a guy who still thinks the Three Stooges are the pinnacle of humor and that "Mom and Dad Save the World" is the funniest movie ever made, so, you know, disclaimer and all.

I like him, both his funny little nervous self and after helping him. His former self is quite funny, but his newer self is a smooth radio host that can do what he does without being as obnoxious and try too hard at being funny like some previous radio host.

He does lose a lot of his charm once you fix him as he becomes more generic DJ guy, rather than the shy, clumsy, slightly neurotic guy who is struggling in the job.

Also: Did you know if you talk to travis on Jet he will talk really slow? I talk to everyone while I'm on Jet
