Charisma and settler cap

Post » Sat Dec 19, 2015 10:31 pm

Hi guys,

im new to this so help me out. I have read that the max ammount of settlers in a settlement is linked to your charisma. So if i wanted more settlers I would have to increase my charisma either by boosting my stats or wearing clothes that enhance charisma. What i dont understand is that i see players on youtube who lower the building/settler limit by dropping weapons and re-storing them in their workshop. I tried this and it works! However, if i do this untill the size limit is down to 0 and i did not increase my charisma, will i still get exra settlers? In short, people say there is a settler cap according to your charisma and size limit, but i see people on youtube on PS4 who have a lot of settlers in 1 settlement. Is the above explained glitch true?

I got the 100% happiness trophy with 22 settlers, I had ten points in charisma plus the coat from Rex that gives another plus three. Didn't use any glitches. How many settlers did you want?

I think the settler limit and the size limit are not related, but I could be wrong, the size limit is just for building things, whereas the settler limit is based off of your charisma.

SO how can PS4 players have huge settlements with a lot of settlers if the settler ammount is linked to charisma? I saw 1 guy that had 62(!) settlers and another who posted that he had 100. Please explain

What do you mean? If i want to do this i also have to start a new character? Because the book is found at the beginning of the game

OK I'm going to break your innocence here and I don't know the hide command for cheat so I put it as a spoiler instead.
Spoiler
if you tell dogmeat or any companion to pick up an item and you pick it up at the same time you have a copy of it and your companion has a copy of it and you can drop both of them on the ground and pick a new SPECIAL point.
note this will make the game way too easy for you and will be a lot less enjoyable because you will have all SPECIAL points at the beginning of the game and no you can do it as long as you still have the book.

Yeah, numbers that high, especially on a console, are acquired through some sort of cheat.

By stacking a ton of Charisma boosting clothing and chems, you can "move" settlers from one settlement to the one you want to max out. With a base of 10, plus the bobblehead and all that other stuff, numbers in the 30s are possible. Leave the radio beacon on the one you just de-populated and it'll recover.

Thanks for the info, if i do want to use this glitch (only for charisma) can i do it when i already used the perk point of the special book or do i need to do it before is use it? So in other words, do i need to start a new game and use the glitch at the beginning?

If you've already used the book, you'll be unable to use it with this character.

However, according to everything I've read, you can't use it to go past 10. (You can duplicate it enough times to take every SPECIAL stat to 10, but no more.) If people are able to do that, it must be another glitch.

as far as I know it does not show any SPECIAL stat that is already maxed but I do not know if you get all of them maxed it might show all of them or be unable to exit the screen.

You can move settlers from one settlement to another by using a supply line trick. I've done this in the past to move settlers that can't otherwise be moved. Basically you assign a settlers to a supply line, then go to the destination and wait or sleep for an hour or two. Usually the new provisioner will show up. When the provisioner shows, go into build mode and reassign them. They'll be added to the population of the destination settlement and subtracted from the original. The name will be stuck as 'Provisioner', but the settler will otherwise behave exactly as a settler should at the new settlement. I did this for un-named settlers that start at a settlement and don't have the 'move' option for some reason. I eventually learned a console command that made it easier and stopped using the trick, but it worked well when I used it. Sometimes a provisioner would get around Sanctuary and refuse to show, but leaving for a day or two and returning would fix it.

I believe you can use that to break the settlement population cap. I'm not entirely sure this will work as I broke the limit in a less tedious way (being on PC), but I'm very confident that it will since it doesn't rely on any settlement choice menus. A good plan would be like this:

Setup a few small settlements as recruiting stations (ie, have a beacon on). As you get settlers in those recruiting settlements, use the supply line move trick to move them to the main settlement.
