Talking About Console vs PC is not Wrong

Post » Sat Dec 19, 2015 12:16 pm

I'm getting tired of the absurdly thin skin and thin rationales for people locking threads and killing free speech in here on the topic of being against console games.

This isn't some bashing, it's a real threat to the future of gaming that sophisticated games get their features and depth cut in order to get them to fit the mold of the console experience. Now you can feel free to imagine WHY the console experience needs this cheapening of games to a lesser form, and it's worth talking about in an open and honest way.

This clearly related to Fallout 4, and clearly F4 has been effected by this (text wheel anyone?) so let's talk about this and stop running away from it.

Meh.

It is about money.

Microsoft gets $60/yr. from people subscribing to XBOX live gold. Lots and lots of moola there. Consoles aren't going anywhere, and increase the sales volume for games.

You can get mad about it, but it is a reality.

I don't mind, though, I have microsoft stocks in my 401k that I want to go up. Money makes the world go-round. ;)

1. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1565196-freedom-of-speech/ tl;dr - "Freedom of Speech" is all about government restrictions, not what you can do in a privately-owned space.

2. Making posts complaining about moderator actions isn't the best way to go about things.

Sorry, that's hyperbolic absurdity. And likely bashing, to a good number of people.

Bioware's games have had a "dialogue wheel" (without limits to 4 options, and with plenty of role-playing choice/consequence/characterization) on console, and with a controller. Consoles and controllers is not why Beth went with only 4 options, and not why their writing is..... eh.... not so good.

(I believe the 4 options limit, is due to their "live conversation" system, where you can walk in/out of a dialogue at will. Which isn't a console issue, but rather a design one.)

Have you ever considered that some people prefer to play on Xbox. Because you know it's just a game and it's actually pretty nice to just put a disc in grab controller and start playing.

PC gaming is overrated.
