Loading issues - "new game"

Post » Sat Dec 19, 2015 10:57 pm

Yesterday, I bought Fallout 4 for the PS4 and have not been able to play the game. I have installed it to the console and also installed the necessary update. It initially loads as I am able to see the Bethesda load screen and hear the cinematic music and the garage. However, when I select "new game," it will not move past the loading screen withat the little green thingy in the corner. I have not waited at this screen past 10 minutes. No error code is given.

I have deleted and reinstalled it about 4 or 5 (heck, maybe 6) times. I have tried every variation that I can think of (i.e., starting it with the update, starting it without the update while the update downloads, stopping the update and trying to play the game, stopping the update - open the game - install the update while the game is open). Nothing seems to work. The disk has no scratches and over half of my memory on the PS4 is still free. I have no problems with any other game.

First thing to check, do you have the 28GB (or so) install? The disk only has some of the game files on it. But I don't think it would even try to launch if you did not have the complete install. I don't have a PS4, but is there a way to Verify the Install?

Are you logged into the same account that you installed the game with? (probably not the issue)

CCNA, thank you for the response. Just went through another re-install. As far as I know, everything is properly installed. The PS4 indicates that 32.63GB are devoted to the game. I still have 170.9GB of free space on the console. Not sure how to verify the install other than I see it and the game initially pops up.

There is only one user connected to the PS4 and the account, so I do not believe that is an issue.

This is thw first Fallout game I've owned. I fell in love with Skyrim and also appreciated Dishonored. Even though Bethesda has produced a wide range of bugs and glitches over the years, I've never experienced anything like this.

Thank you for your time.

UPDATE: Exchanged the disk for another one. It continues to do the same thing. I'm guessing it must be the PS4. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS HAPPEN WITH A GAME?

Its still trying to download the latest patches thats why nothing happens. Check the downloads section on your ps4 when the fallout 4 disk is in. Wait until its downloaded and installed.

Before you do that delete all the fallout 4 game data and start over

Nibbles, thanks for the suggestion. I am certain I have tried it both with and without the file being downloaded. I even deleted the two save files ("controls" and "settings," I think) both on the console and on the PSPlus upload, ran defrag, reinstalled, and made sure the update file was downloaded. Still nothing.

Parental Controls maybe? You say other games work so the console must work. Now, your downloading the game and all so Internet works, and have you verified you can connect to PSN? Again, not having a PS4, can you designate a custom place to store your saves, perhaps the media is not inserted. Is there a Cloud saves mechanism where it is trying to look for a place to store the save file that is not on your console?

The above is spitballing so that is why some of the ideas might be outlandish.

Do you have a Season Pass?

Google is not turning anything up under PS4 Fallout won't start or any other combo I can think of.

Have you used the File Manager and located the saves directory for the game and deleted anything that is in there?

No luck with anything so far. I even went as far to format the PS4 and reinstall the software ("re-initialize"). This deletes absolutely everything. I made sure that all my saves were backed up to both a usb drive and to the cloud (Playstation Plus). Reinstalled and still got the same results.

Just like you, Google searches have done nothing for me. I just got off the phone with Sony and they said to contact Bethesda. They think it is a Bethesda software issue, but if no one else is having the same problem, how is it? It must be a PS4 issue and not a Bethesda issue.

I'm at a loss for what to do. I've already exchanged the disk once because I thought the first might have had corrupted data on the disk or something. I know they won't just give me my money back just for the fact that the game has been opened. Going on three days…this is frustrating but I do not want it to get the best of me.

Thank you for your help so far.
