Best way to control Companions?

Is there hotkeys or something....

The way ive been doing it is focus on dogmeat and then select the various commands and sometimes this gets hard and tedious.....is there a better way i dont know bout?

Better leave them on a long leash and let them do whatever they want. The commands are clunky and often don't lead to the desired result. Even if you equip them with powerful weapons and armor, they're not very good in a fight. Their main perpuse is to serve as cannon fodder to attract some aggro and as pack mules. Apart from their quests, of course.

I find them to be quite good in a fight much better than any other Bethesda game and any follower mod was done. Only time I had an issue was when they want to have a chatty moment when you reach one of the dialog thresholds.

Well, that's not saying very much. Truth is, even if I equip McGready with a real sniper rifle of the legendary kind, he whines about can't take much more and I'm actually happy if he kills a single opponent before being on his knees. The killing part is actually up to me in most cases. And McGready is one of the tougher ones.

Actually, as far as fighting goes, I found the companions in FNV much more effective than they are in FO4. I know, I know, Obsidian operating for Bethesda. But it's the most recent Fallout before this one.

Im mainly concerned nout the controls...id rather just be able to hit hotkeys in the modst of battle or what not instead od messing with the current control scheme.....for example is there a way to bring up the companion control menu with have the crosshairs being on him?

I don't try to control them at all - way too clunky.

Good thing they're immortal, since they'd have killed themselves long ago otherwise, be it by charging 6 Super Mutants or just walking off a bridge.

They make great settlement guards, tho.

! fix the companion controls bethesda

i suggest the following :

- one button that does two things : * when clicked on the ground companions move there and hold ground

* when clicked on an enemy they will concentrate fire on that one

- a button to recall them at u're side
