Trader Rylee Vanished - Suggestions?

Post » Sun Jan 10, 2016 5:55 am

I offered Rylee a job at one of my settlements, she accepted, and when I looked at the map, that settlement increased from 19 to 20 settlers.

I proceeded to do the Mystery Meat quest, left the cannery, and went to that settlement. However, she has yet to show up. I've waited, rested, fast traveled around, did some other quests...still no sign of her. I checked all around the settlement and all around the cannery, but she's no where to be found.

However, she's still counting against the population of that settlement. (And I know it's her that made the number go up, because I previously turned off the recruitment beacon with the desire to send all of the "level 4" traders there, so I wanted to make sure some slots were open.)

Has anyone else encountered this issue (or a similar one,) and if so, what did you do to fix it? Not having her there isn't the end of the world, but I'm a bit of a completionist and would like to exhaust any options before giving up. PS4 unfortunately, so spawning her with console commands isn't an option.

Well there is one way, when you recruit her, manually escort her to where you want her to go, provided you have a previous save state of course. If she vanishes after you escort her there, then not quite sure what to do without access to the console commands.

It usually takes a couple days for her to arrive, far slower then your fast travel. Try waiting a couple days then setting up the bell item to attract all the settlers once rung. I presume you sent her to Sanctuary which is a big place.

This is a known bug, unfortunately. It sometimes happens to basically any named NPC that can be sent to your settlements. If you're on PC, pull up her page on the wiki, use the prid command to select her, and then use the moveto command to bring her to your settlement.

Update: I fired up the game this morning and saw that the settlement I sent her to (Drive In) was back down to 19. I'm guessing that the game just ate her.

Tip for future reference would be, I guess, to save before trying to recruit anyone and then dropping whatever you're doing to go straight there. If they don't show up, reload you save and escort them there yourself.

General consensus is it's another bug, to add to the list. Some guys have said to let her leave the building you meet her in. Don't talk to her inside the building, but walk outside with her. Give it 4 or 5 seconds before talking to her, pick a different location to the one you ultimately want her to go to as the first conversation challenge is met with her saying she's confused. That ultimate location (the second try) is the nearest settlement you have to the place you meet her. Then when she arrives there send her to the settlement you finally want to use her at. If all this is true, you could also try patting your head while rubbing your tummy and rolling your left leg up during a full moon on the last Sunday of the month. What a ridiculous set of requirements to get certain parts of this game to work.

Yeah, it's quite ridiculous. Even the Vault Tec guy, who I did get to show up, is bugged to have the "offer job" and "I was supposed to win a pack of steak knives!" dialogue every single time I try to talk to him. Have to wait through all of that to actually barter with him.
