Mama Murphy's post-game visions

Post » Sun Jan 10, 2016 10:37 pm

Here are all Mama Murphy's faction related visions:

Institute: You're wearing a lab coat. You're standing with... men of science. Visionaries. Brilliant but misunderstood. I see a land marked up, like a great experiment. Each test a new beginning. Each sacrifice an acceptable loss. You will not be loved, but you will save humanity. However you choose to define it.

Minutemen: You're standing with... the people. Working together. United. I see a land filled with hope again. Fear falls away as the brave step forward to join the ranks. You're a hero. A symbol for a better world. Our world.

BoS: You're wearing a suit of steel and energy. You're standing with... your brothers. Your mission. Accomplished. I see a land secured, contained. Dangerous objects taken from those who don't understand. Those who can't be trusted. You are the uniform, and you wear it well. And your rank and chain of command protect you better than the thickest armor.

Railroad: You're wearing a mask. You're standing with... outcasts. The underdogs. The lanterns in the dark. I see a world that will never know your sacrifice. You have led the enslaved to freedom, but they must still hide from those who don't understand. But you'll be there for them. You'll see their humanity when no one else will. You'll be their guardian in the shadows.

So what are your thoughts on these visions? Do they change who your support or further your belief in your faction?

Reposting what I said from the other thread:

The Railroad and Minutemen are pretty straight-forward and don't say a whole lot other than "good for you, hero". The Brotherhood and The Institute are more up for interpretation.

Well, this obviously confirms the Institute is twisted and evil.

Well if you choose to believe MM they're actually "misunderstood."

Take that as you will.

They used people in experiments, kill and replace people, make conscious life forms for the sole purpose of enslaving them. I don't think it gets any more twisted than that.

If you're judging them by exterior criteria, fair enough. I was just responding to the idea that MM 'confirms' they are twisted and evil. Which is not necessarily the case. Because she says:

You're standing with... men of science. Visionaries. Brilliant but misunderstood.

Which seems to support the idea of them being bumbling nerds more than evil scientists.

Like I said though, its MM, so take everything with a heavy grain of salt.

Minuteman: The Minuteman vision is awesome, to bad Minuteman game play doesn't come anywhere close.

Institute: There is no good or evil, there is only science! This vision, does not take into account us benevolent, humanitarian Directors.

BOS: Band of Brothers, Benevolent feudal overlords. This vision works pretty well, but doesn't take into account those players who steal crops from farmers. Since I pay for the crops it works.

Railroad: This, while not bad, does nothing to attract me to this faction.

Storywise this is perfect! For example, how would you judge a organisation or lets say a land that tries to kill/silence whistleblower who discover things which are clearly against the law? Simply evil and thats it? I guess we can all agree that its not that simple!

There is no black or white and im glad that bethesda put enough effort in the different factions to show each one of them has some dirty stories. You cant simply say they do this and for that reason they are evil. They all have their motivations, and none of them tries slave mankind or kill the princess or whatever non sense. They all trying their best to make the world a better place. And its up to you where you draw the line and decide whats worth beeing supported.

I think noone, who is older than 12, is that naive to believe that any bigger corporation or government could run their business without doing any questionable things. Its simply not possible. Would be great if things were different but thats the way it is.

In short, its nice to see we dont follow a rainbow pooping unicorn faction in the game, we follow factions that faces tough decisions.

Edit: ok in RL there is currently a example for a group/formation which has absolutely nothing positive in it. I guess every rule has its exception...

Whatever your own opinion of the Institute and its ending is, there is absolutely nothing in MM's vision that says 'you did a bad thing'. It says 'you chose science and progress, and many (like the poster quoted, I suppose) will not understand your vision and will hate you for it, but you will save humanity'.

How that translates to 'the Institute is evil and you are evil' in some people's eyes is beyond me.
