Rad Storm Awareness

Post » Mon Jan 11, 2016 12:45 am

I don't hang around these forums much, I apologize if this has been suggested before.

As a companion to the deadly radstorms mod (making them fatal),

I would like to see a mod that makes NPC's aware of and fear rad storms. They should be running indoors and NPC's who stay out should be incapacitated (instead of killed).

It's just very immersion-breaking to be at any populated area and be tooled-up for or freaking out about a radstorm while every NPC is walking around casual clothing and acting like it's a regular day.

Well, considering they are harmless, i think they are right to not react :hehe:

Someone needs to make them more dangerous than a fireworks display first. And i would imagine this would a be a feature of such mod.

Yeah, on a practical level, NPCs aren't getting anymore RADS from a Rad Storm than they do eating their Cram and Nuka-Cola everyday.

It'd make sense that they'd react somehow, but running inside is pointless because you gain radiation regardless.

It would be nice if someone could replace radiation storms with the whether from Skyrim whenever you use the shout to call storms. Instead of just accumulating radiation whenever lighting strikes, regardless of where you are, the lightning itself should be a spell and you should only gain radiation if it strikes close to you. The closer you are, the more you get. At least then taking shelter would help a little.

Oh, no, I'm sorry I should've mentioned that I am using this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/829/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Ffallout4%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D829%26preview%3D&pUp=1

Maxxed out on damage and frequency it's fatal! I love it, it finally gives the storms a purpose.

So I guess, I'd like such a "rad storm awareness and fear" mod to be a nice match for this mod.

From a purely scientific standpoint, a 'radstorm' like this isn't going to cause incapacitating damage in any kind of immediate sense. It would be a relatively mild level of exposure and wouldn't likely be much greater than the typical radiation exposure that the people of the Commonwealth get simply from eating. Radiation dissipates over distance.

Note that the typical structures in the Commonwealth aren't going to stop radiation anyway. The wood shacks at your settlements? Those are going to do precisely nothing to stop radiation.

Compared to the rad storms in NV's Nevada Skies, FO4's are pitiful.

It's just about giving a background event real gameplay value, with these storms being part of what makes the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games' wasteland actually dangerous.

From a purely scientific standpoint a lot in Fallout is very funny. Can't forget the fi in sci-fi :)

Making the player run to a burrow and hide in terror makes for a great and intense gameplay mechanic.

Ooh, nice ^_^

But, i still want someone to replace them with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fXPxR3biFg :hehe: Speaking of, NPCs in STALKER do react to blowouts, sometimes even causing fights over shelter.

Yeah, it'd be better if any shelter (with 4 walls and a roof) either stopped or at least reduced the effect of the storms.

However, what about NPCs with no shelter to run to, like traders on the road? I suppose they could go into metallised tents or something, but that'd be a pig to try and mod in.

Nothing could survive in the Boston Wasteland if the storms were too powerful. I'd say most things that live there are probably pretty resistant. If someone wants to use a mod that makes the storms more deadly it's probably best to assume the PC is more susceptible to the storms because they are pre-war and don't have generations worth of radiation resistance built up, but that the rest of the population isn't really concerned about them.

(I've seen it haha) Yes, that's what I'm looking for here.

Well, I suppose it's like I said before. I just don't like that the radstorms are pointless, just there to be a green fog variation.

Damn. The radiation storms in Fallout 4 are an absolute joke compared to the behemoth in that video.

Yes, though to be fair, that version is from a mod (called Atmosfear for a reason ;)). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpdYowwjF8g was as lame as the Rad Storms. Well visually, it was still dangerous.

Oh, and the modded one looks even better at night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0Z6CxmiCwY
