Beware Vault 81 illness quest - Lose 1 random stat point

Post » Mon Jan 11, 2016 4:43 am

I only lost 10 HP as well. Even though I would have given the cure to the kid anyway, the game did a pretty poor job at clarifying that you can actually contract a disease from the mole rats. I only realized it two in-game months later when it was too late.

Again, only 10 HP, no biggie. But still...

Does anyone know if this affects dialogue on the Prydwen? I got through the quest without contracting the disease, but if you become a Brotherhood Knight they give you an evaluation that asks about any diseases.

Good question. I was wondering this myself.

Someone must test it now!

Not that hard. Get a ballistic weapon. Slap a suppressor on it. Tell your companions/dog to wait. And sneak. All mole rats dead, you're disease free, and Austin (Not!Timmy) gets the cure and lives to become a companion in Fallout 5. Everyone wins.

My RP would rather take the disease, it's k. Maybe they could add a cure questline in a DLC...

In the meantime... I'll just have to make sure to drink plenty of irradiated water everyday to keep the disease from spreading.

What disease? :P

I was super careful in that place, seeing how badly the kid was affected. No disease for me. \o/

No cure. Ever. Of course, you can complete the quest and save Timmy with both of you coming out unscathed.

First: no companions. This includes the dog. Do the quest solo.

Second: have a damn good one-shot kill weapon. Combat shotgun or plasma weapon.

Third: have all 4 perks of the weapon of choice to boost damage. This is important, because two of the molerats aren't one-shot kills.

Fourth: keep Jet (and at least 2 vials of addictol) on hand and/or have high agility. You'll need this for VATS.

Fifth: clean house. Move in quickly, then turn and back out. This will get the molerats out. VATS the weaker ones. If you can't one-shot kill them, reload the game.

The goal here is to take out the mole rats before they touch you. I would recommend a couple of run-throughs so you can memorize their pop-out pattern.

Then, give the vial to Timmy and you both are saved from the disease.

Enjoy!

I used a plasma thrower that was otherwise fully upgraded. Only had to reload once, otherwise I just filled hallways with green death and killed them in mobs.

VATS is just a bonus. The mole rats are mole lemmings, and run at you in a straight line. Easy headshots just hipfiring :D

So my apologize ...

I have read on forums; there is a method to be cured and cure the boy (you need to do it before give the cure to the doctor)... i don't know if it work, because i read it after i give the cure to the boy...

I wonder if power armor prevents you from getting this. I've never gotten it and both of my characters have the Endurance of tissue paper (literally always at 1) and I've gotten my face chewed on multiple times. The only thing I can figure is that I was wearing power armor both times.

Power armour gives you one additional hit, but mole rats are pretty fast biters. You might've just gotten lucky.

I would be interested to know if the anti radiation (named in french combinaison étanche / Waterproof suits because in french "étanche" mean nothing can enter inside no illness, no gaz, nothing) can prevent this... I am sure it will not work...
